Filmmaker Spike Lee embraced several conspiracy theories about President Donald Trump in an interview published Sunday in GQ magazine, including the infamous “fine people hoax” about neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“He sided with the Klan in Charlottesville. He’s sympathetic to their cause,” Lee said during the interview.

In fact, Trump said that neo-Nazis and white supremacists should be “condemned totally,” and sided with non-violent protesters on either side of the issue of the removal of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee from a public park.

Lee also repeated the false claim, widely circulated in the media, that Trump used “tear gas” on “peaceful protesters” to clear Lafayette Park so that he could walk across it and pose with a Bible in front of a fire-damaged St. John’s Church.

“He was on some General George Patton, John Wayne, bullshit! I mean, it was unbelievable. The whole thing was staged. You know, tear gas a peaceful crowd, give a speech and then walk from the White House to the church!” Lee said.

As Attorney General William Barr noted Sunday, the protests had been violent for days, and U.S. Park Police had decided to expand the security perimeter near the White House the day before Trump walked through the park. Tear gas was not used in clearing the park; the two events were not connected. “It’s the job of the media to tell the truth,” Barr said.

Asked whether he believed Trump would lose the election, Lee said, “I’m not certain about anything. How do we know he’s not going to try to rig the thing again?”

There is no evidence the election was “rigged,” and Special Counsel Robert Mueller found there had been no collusion between Trump and the Russian government.

But can this just be a Spike Lee Hate General thread...because I really....really....really...REALLY hate Spike Lee.

I haaaaaaated Chi-raq, probably more then any movie in that decade, for how absurdly overthetop it fucking was. The only reason BlackkKlansman did better then Chi-raq was because it was based off a true story, and was released around the time of the Unite the Right rally.

Edit: oh my god, he did that shitty Old Boy movie? Fuck this dude lmao.

One thing I know about Spike Lee was that he "directed" the career mode for NBA 2K16.

It's ... cringe to say the least. The career mode is dubbed "Living 'Da Dream" and you play as a character dubbed Frequency Vibrations.

One example of the bad script.

Here's all the cutscenes if you want to submit yourself to it.

To be fair to Spike there's no doubt that the studio in charge of 2K16 never had artistic drive or the time to actually craft anything half decent. They probably paid him a half million to come by the studio and just stand around and say "Yeah that camera angle is nice." And the NBA would veto the game saying anything interesting about the sport, a story mode of that kind is more or less a glorified commercial.

As the site's resident magic negro, can you answer this for me? Do Blacks actually give a shit about Spike Lee, either now or ever? The only people I've known who love Spike Lee are woke white people trying to ingratiate themselves to the Black community. Coincidentally, these same people love to bludgeon Quentin Tarantino for his perceived racism, despite every Black person I have ever known loving QT's movies.

While we’re on the subject of Spike Lee and Tarantino, the former did shit on Django Unchained:
Although he hasn’t seen the movie, director Spike Lee tellsVibe that Quentin Tarantino’s new Civil War-era Western Django Unchained is “disrespectful to my ancestors.”

Lee, whose latest film Red Hook Summer deals with race and class in the South Brooklyn neighborhood, said he has no plans to see Django Unchained. He elaborated on his dissatisfaction on Twitter, writing, “American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them.”

This isn’t the first time Lee has taken issue with Tarantino’s films, particularly when it comes to the use of a racial epithet that is used myriad times in Django and appeared frequently in Tarantino’s 1997 film Jackie Brown.

Lee spoke out about the film after apparently telling Django star Jamie Foxx that he wasn’t going to. In a separate interview with Vibe, Foxx recalled an encounter with Lee at the BET awards saying, “You know Spike, he’ll let you have it whether it’s good, bad or ugly. And he said, ‘I’m not going to say anything bad about this film. It looks like y’all are getting it.'”

Also weighing in on Django‘s use of the term is Sarah Silverman who told TMZ, “Doesn’t it take place like during slavery? Wouldn’t it be odd if they didn’t have that horrific word in it?” The comic added that Lee has “got a lot of mishegas with a lot of art. I think you can’t really tell art what to do.”

Do The Right Thing was a good movie.

Agreed, and I'd say it was his one good film.

IIRC, it was also his first film or one of his first, so he probably didn't have as much of an ego as he does nowadays.

Do The Right Thing is for Spike Lee what The Sixth Sense is for M. Night or what Buffy is for Joss Whedon. He's an overrated one-note wonder who happened to knock it out of the park on the first try.

They used to for about 3 years (when he released his most popular movies: Do The Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues, and Malcolm X) and then for a period of 25 years they didn't and then there was a brief uptick when Black KKKlansman came along and won Spike Lee his first Oscar.

But most people don't really care about Spike Lee otherwise. He's a small, angry little man that prides off of his black identity for the purposes of protruding himself, a rich man, as the victim in order to gain more shekels.

The problem with this is that while it was based on a true story, the only reason it received attention was because Spike repeated the obvious media lie that President Trump said “there’s good people on both sides” while literally omitting everything else he said.

Spike is the type of person that is in love with his own ego, while not realizing that he is the reason why Hollywood and award shows are largely being ignored by the general public outside of them.

Keep in mind as well, Spike Lee was born into wealth....
