My Story: I used to live in a very old house and when I was sixteen I would always hear a woman weeping or sobbing in my bedroom at least once a month. Spooky as fuck.

Way before I met the Husbando, I lived alone in a spooky basement apartment where the pipes were always rattling and groaning. I finally learned to sleep through them but every so often, there would be a loud sound and I'd wake up, afraid someone had broken in (because it was just that sort of neighborhood).

One night, I had what my rational brain must assume was a very vivid lucid dream: I dreamed I woke up and there was a little girl about twelve standing beside my bed, talking to me. Since I had work in the morning, I kind of mumbled and rolled to my other side, telling her to go away because she didn't belong there and I couldn't do anything for her. Then, I very distinctly heard her say "Well you're very rude."

And then crash, bam, the bookshelf across the bedroom completely collapsed. I woke up and snapped on the lights, but obviously there was no little girl and the mess on the floor was very real.

Again, the only rational conclusion I can come to is that maybe I heard the bookshelf starting to collapse, which woke me halfway up. Still a very creepy set of coincidences.

About 15 years ago, my walkie-talkie picked up a frequency of some guy talking about a car crash and a family trapped inside. There was the sound of breaking glass and a woman screaming. I turned it off and even took out the batteries.

It was likely I picked up someone's radio frequency but when you're a kid and don't know about that piece of information, it messes with you.

Last year I had my first episode of sleep paralysis. For heartfelt like hours, I was fully awake and could hear my family, who thought I was still taking a nap on the couch, joking about how hard it was to wake me up. I couldn't move my body no matter what I did. I was trapped inside. Finally my dog must have picked up on something because he jumped on my chest and his heavy ass must have shocked my body and I was finally able to move.

Once on an air force cadets camp when I was about 16 my friend and I were in the same bed so we could gossip well past lights out. When suddenly this black shape appeared over her legs and sat on them, I kept trying to push her legs aside but they wouldn't budge.

We were about 50m from a building that had been used as an army hospital during WWI, which is supposedly haunted.

Sleep paralysis can lead to really fucking scary visuals. I experienced two of them. The first was when I was over at my cousin's house and I woke up in the middle of the night. A man with a bloody face was standing over my bed with a sickle. The second one was at home about 7 years ago when two enormous skeleton hands reached out from under the bed to grab me.

I dunno what brought both of them to happen. Probably just waking up inappropriately.

Oh, this isn't precisely a scary story, but it sounds like one in the making: immediately adjacent to my university's campus is a 200-year-old abandoned insane asylum. It's a legitimately beautiful old building if you can ignore the backside, which is covered in rotten brickwork and barred windows. Various kids and ghost-hunting groups have tried to get inside, but it's very heavily guarded because the inside is so decrepit that it's pretty much a death trap now (although you can go on YouTube and find videos of people who jumped the fence). While it started life as a model modern psychiatric hospital, from about 1950 to 1970 it was allegedly a snake pit. The state stepped in, changed the laws, and the place was reformed until the widespread defunding of in-patient hospitals in the mid-2000s. But it still has a reputation as a place where terrible things once happened, and is rumored to be haunted. To add to this, to this day people keep stumbling across small graveyards in the woods full of cross marked only with the hospital's name and a number.

The great joke here is that two years ago, my university bought this hospital. They're going to renovate it and turn it into either our new psych department or a girls' dorm. Yes. They're considering housing dozens of college girls in a renovated haunted insane asylum. Have these people never even seen a slasher film?

Okay. This is true. It happened to me, I was stone sober, and The Knife was there. You can ask her for conformation if ya don't believe me.

I had a really weird nightmare about ducks before this happened. I didn't remember all of it, but it somehow involved a flock of ducks pulling me apart as the drowned me. I woke up the next morning really shook up about it- I have a severe water phobia- but finally shrugged it off as just a bad dream and went about my business.

About a week or so later, I was asleep beside my wife. It was about three or so in the morning, and all was good with the world. The knife later said she was woken up by what she thought was the sounds of a hurt animal on our backdoor concrete stoop, that was about two hundred yards from a lake. She got up, tossed on a robe & walked to the back door- unlocked & opened it- and guess who was standing there on the last step?

I shit you not. It was a duck. A brown one, calmly standing there.

The Knife left him standing in the doorway, with the door open, and padded back to the bedroom door, where she calmly woke me up and simply said "I think it's for you". I grumblingly got out of bed, put on my glasses, and walked into the kitchen to the back door, thinking it was just another one of my dumb-ass friends in a jam. Then I saw the duck in the doorway, in the moonlight. As soon as my brain registered what it was....one thought consumed my mind.

He's come for me.

So I snatched my halberd off the kitchen wall and went right after his ass. Stark naked. The Knife said I was ringing sparks off the concrete steps & walls with my blade as I swung, and I swear to God here, the duck was just calmly dodging my strikes. After about two or three dozen swipes in about thirty seconds I just slung the halberd at him- which he easily dodged- and screamed at my wife "GET MY SHOTGUN!

When he heard that, he just calmly flew away. I've been uneasy about ducks ever since. I know he's still out there someplace.

I gotta say, ducks aside, the fact that your initial reaction to danger is to grab a halberd may be the most manly thing I've heard all week.

Here is one my mom tells me all the time.
When I was five my family moved into a rather big house. The family of the previous owner committed suicide. He hung himself in the master bedroom and since he was a recluse, found a couple months later when the smell was so bad that the mailman smelled it from the mailbox. It was nasty. Cue my parents, who were dealing with me, a sickly kid that had to be hospitalized and on steroids constantly because Of serum sickness and my one year old sister.
The master bedroom was turned into a big playroom that my mom put a swingset in so I could play there in the winter. One day my grandmother was watching me and she said I put the rope around my neck and pretended to "swing". This freaked her out and she told my mom. This led my mother to record me pretending to swing and her turning the playroom into a bedroom for herself.
She told me this when I was much older and let me watch the tape. I remember absolutely nothing and that gave my the chills. I must have overheard my parents talking about the owner but it still creeps me out enough that I can't stand to think about hanging.

I've seen a gray alien and of course and old witch standing above me during sleep paralysis. I was aware of what sleep paralysis is though, so it was more of an annoyance than actually scary.

I've never had anything paranormal happen to me yet, but I still someday think I'll see a UFO out in the sea.

I've seen a gray alien and of course and old witch standing above me during sleep paralysis. I was aware of what sleep paralysis is though, so it was more of an annoyance than actually scary.

For me after the initial shock wore off it just pissed me off. I had a spell a couple of months ago and i hallucinated a calico cat on my bed.

I have frequent episodes of sleep paralysis and every time I keep hearing my father walk into my room and talk to me, always about mundane shit. I've never seen anything during an episode because I knew about sleep paralysis before it started happening to me so I keep my eyes shut. Nothing scary or abnormal has ever happened during sleep paralysis
Recently I learned how to snap myself out of what and figured out what triggers it, I get it when I sleep on my back and I also get super scary nightmares when I sleep on my back so I usually sleep half on my stomach and half on my side
My story's not very scary sorry
