In my opinion, unbelievably bad. Definitely the worst 'woke' remake so far. Aside from shit writing, shitty 'cool' moments that were total cringe, and shitty new characters, they went about dismantling every single aspect of human progress made in the Star Trek universe, every piece of goodness and hope that Roddenberry wanted Starfleet to represent. In Picard Starfleet is basically racist sexist space EU and everyone is living in a racist sexist hellscape from which there is no escape, while Picard stumbles around like a senile old man. Oh, and poverty is back, for some reason. Fun!

Pretty much this. The contempt the writers have for Star Trek fans is obscene. They've intentionally recast the series' ethos to try to paint a picture to new fans that the older series was always backwards and wrong and irredeemable.

And in its place we have hamfisted lessons about contemporary politics and culture and meme references, all warped to appease the lowest common denominator.

On the plus side, you never need to watch an episode twice because there is zero depth and you will never be left thinking about what you just saw.

Sorry, but I highly doubt the writers are going to retcon the trashfire that was season 1, even if it is what most fans want., or it would restore Trek to what it should be. Their egos would never allow it.

To be fair, TNG implied that Starfleet had a somewhat Marxist philosophy when it came to Money, and DS9 demonized Capitalism via the Ferengi. It's my least favorite part about Star Trek.

This is fine, though. They live in a fantasy world with literally infinite resources (at least, on earth. Human Colonies outside of the solar system DO have/use/need money). Who would need money on a planet where you can literally push button, receive bacon? Starfleet officers don't seem to be barred from having wealth, either, as you can see them gambling all the time (with real Ferengi/Alien currency) on DS9. Beverly Crusher is also known to have money. The nicest thing about old school Star Trek is that they knew how to execute believable wish fulfillment. It was the future, but somewhat mundane, and not overplayed. It was all so natural. Optional Communism is whatever.

It should have ended after Enterprise in 2005, it had an almost 40 year run and it was out of gas, same deal with Star Wars, it had exactly 40 years, from the first movie to The Last Jedi when it officially ran out of gas.

With very rare exceptions a franchise should have a run of about 40 years and then just... stop and allow new things to come along, it's stupid the way we try to artificially extend the life of these franchises instead of letting new generations have new things they can call their own, it's not fair to younger generations and we're not really getting anything in return either but crap.

Shit gets tired after 40 years, what we need are new franchises set in space, either something more in the plausible vein ala Star Trek or something in the more fantasy vein ala Star Wars or some entirely new kind of take on the idea.
