Apparently, Valve is allowing refunds on Steam.
http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/
Reading through it, to sum it up from a few things I read:
- A refund can be offered if less than 2 hours was made on a game that was purchased in two weeks.

- They are also doing refunds on DLC though that last up to 14 days.

- Purchases on Valve-developed games can be refunded within 48 hours, as long as it hasn't been consumed or modified.

Any Kiwi's have thoughts on this?

This is all good stuff for the most part. For the most part I like the system. However

"If you have been VAC banned you lose the right to refund that game"

I can see why this is done. People make dupe accounts to play something like CS Go with hacks. So I can assume this is to prevent a guy spending 1.9 hours using hacks and getting banned, and then getting his 14$ refunded and doing it again.

However it's still a bit of a dick move, but I can't think of a way around it that isn't prone to abuse. This is also likely why they removed the ability to get refunds on gifts

I do like however that they specifically state they will tolerate people getting refunds on games purchased prior to sales, and then rebuying them during a sale.

Seems like it should decrease the number of credit card reversals, account bans, and the ill will all this generates.

It could also be abused by pirates, but I don't think many pirates are actually buying the game, then canceling the purchase and torrenting it. Pirates gonna pirate.

Yeah, this can no doubt leave some indie dev's rather salty since the games they make won't get them money from everyone. Also gotta like the very last tweet saying "entitled piss babies" since telling Valve not to let games be refunded comes off as "entitled". Also gotta like Wu saying it's unfair even though that means there can be something about the game that not many like such as too many bugs or even boring gameplay.

Who's this Patrick Krebs fuckwad? Seems I should know him. Not many people use an insult as retarded as "piss babies."

Also, Valve only listens to people who BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.

Fucking SJW assclowns.

In Australia Steam was always required to give refund, just it was a pain in the ass to send a ticket in and quote the ACCC's fair trade whatever-bumfuck.

Seriously. If your business model can't be assimilated into the juggernaut that is Steam, then you should just stop making games.

oh man this fucks over shovelware devs so bad :heart-full:

i love it, this could actually be the beginning of fixing greenlight. maybe. but probably not.
Well, it could mediate some of the crap coming out of greenlight in that while the shovelware dev may be able to sell their product on Steam, they won't make much when people refund the shovelware crap they purchased. If it doesn't really fix greenlight, it could at least act as a sort of counterbalance.

Great step in the right direction, just wish they'd do something to tighten up early access so that there's not a repeat of DF9/ that shitty MMO shooter I bought who's name escapes me, where the devs use early access to cash out on a half finished game and then take off into the night

Totalbiscuit asks developers about the refund system and their opinions on it.

It's sad that some developers see this as a bad thing

Doesn't seem very conclusive to me. It seems the refund system may actually increase sales, because when people were basically stuck with the results of a bad decision previously, they would be less likely to give a potential purchase a chance. Now, they might give something a shot.

That would result in more refunded purchases, but it would also result in more purchases overall.

The big question for me is the policy on re-buying refunded games. There's potential to game the system there. Other than that, I think its a good policy.

If it's refunding a game that just went on sale to buy it back at the new sale price, they've explicitly okayed that.
