Speaking of Steve and of nice things, it would be interesting to see a Very Special Episode where he tries some of the modern civilian oddities that have been making their way around YouTube--hamburger or birthday cake in a can, for example.

We've all seen food/miscellaneous reviewers give them a go, but Steve has so much more perspective. He's the man who could critique the preservation of a canned currywurst, the manufacturers' recipe decisions, and whether he'd rather eat this or an 80-year-old ration, if someone had already removed the cigarettes.

There's one piece of Stevelore I haven't seen on here: in his review of the 1969 Food Packet, Survival, Abandon Aircraft Ration, we get to see his dog, Scooter.

Steve explains he can't give any of the 46-year-old dehydrated meat bar to Scooter because "it might make him sick. Me, on the other hand, I'll try it out."

Not a bad idea. It should probably be a generalized pragmatic survival strategy thread though. If you live in the countryside, having a pre-planned understanding with neighbors is probably most important, while if you live in a city it's probably best to focus on having resources to survive a couple of weeks of water and/or power outage. Extra important if you live somewhere really warm - your elderly relatives won't survive unassisted without AC for long!

I finally caved and eBay'd some Coffee Instant Type 2, and let me tell you, Steve1989 did not exaggerate.

I'm not a fancy coffee person or a gourmet or supertaster or anything, but yeah, it's nice. Kind of a round, mellow flavor, not acidic or with that nasty stranded-in-a-waiting-room bitterness. It's an instant coffee that did not make me regret having to drink it.

The powder is a lot finer; I made the mistake of opening it over the steaming mug once and it clumped immediately, but dissolved again with stirring.

That texture might be the drawback, though. I hoard a fistful of instant coffee sachets in the back of the cupboard in case of power failure or baking, so I don't think I'd use bulk spray-dried coffee often enough before it solidified in the jar like a pu-erh cake.

Its the real deal and a shame they don't sell it commercially.
He also claims other milarities just use taster's choice. I keep instant for when i don't feel like/ have time for espresso or french press but taster's choice is also genuinely enjoyable.

My family is very concerned.

I'm glad I'm not the only one concerned, I came here just to point out it's been 4 months since his last upload, and to ask if anyone knows anything, if he's okay, etc.

Working 60 hours a week is plausible, he may have been in a case like mine where COVID kiboshed alot of my usual work and now that it's coming back, he's getting all he can. Still, it would be sad if he's just tired of MREs. Or the hassle of filming him eating MREs.
