Back during the early aughts there used to be a popular 3D social media site called Second Life, where people could log into a multi-user environment, built worlds and put together an avatar for themselves. My Ndad has a computer science PhD and it was like like he always prefered the company of his online friends over his handful of AFK friends, or me. He would take me to soccer matches, and spend the entire match staring down at his smartphone. My Tdad had built the perfect woman for himself on Second Life. The creation of "Penny Widget" was his life, the could spend hours dressing up this avatar, styling her hair, and then he would make her go out and attend Second Life parties where Penny would flirt and dance with others.

After a couple of years of being very active on the site, he met a transwoman (the voice actor of some famous children's cartoon at the time), who ended up becaming his virtual lover, confidant and eventual egg-hatcher. My dad's avatar and this transwoman's avatar went on virtual dates together and had simulated lesbian sex on Second Life, despite my dad having always been exclusively heterosexual and married twice. My mom (his second wife) was still married to my Ndad at the time of this secret affair, and she began to notice that dad was no longer spending time with us. He was always on Second Life, and would not tell my mom what he was doing there, or about his affair with the transwoman while presenting as a woman himself. I believe his experiences on Second Life with this transwoman confused him to the point where he started to believe that he himself was the perfect woman he had built for himself on Second Life. He was encouraged to use transitioning as means to become his own creation. No longer was he going to be the man in the dark animating "Penny", he was going to actually be "Penny".

When I was 8, my Tdad announced that he was going to change his name from Steve to "Penny" and told me that he was no longer my father but my mother. I was instructed to no longer call him by his name, Steve and to only refer to him as "mom" from now onwards. I didn't like it, it just felt so wrong and strange to me, but what could I do as an 8 year old? I could not resist him or stand up to him so I went along. Every time I made a mistake and reverted back to calling him dad or I accidentally said his name "Steve", especially when that happened in the presence of others, he would tear up and complain about how much I had hurt him. That made me feel ashamed and guilty, and I always felt like I had to walk around egg-shells when I was with him, because my Ndad was on HRT which gave him these wild moodswings that made him unpredictable, given to sudden outburst of crying, or laughing hysterically at something on his smartphone. You never knew which way the wind was blowing with my Ndad. Growing up with someone who was this fickle has caused me a lot of enduring anxiety. I can even become anxious around people I am familiar and intimate with. I feel that from one day to the next they might turn on me and drop a bombshell, revealing they were not who they claimed to be.

My teenage years were uncomfortable. I would bring girls home and try to make out with them in my room... while my Tdad was busy dilating in the other room. Dilation was very painful for him and he could barely stifle his anguished grunts. After I complained about it (I was getting older and bigger and felt more confident about confronting him), he would lock the door to his bedroom and cover himself up with a blanket while dilating but I could still hear him and knew what he was doing (my dad is very senstitive to sounds and I guess I have inherited that trait from him). I felt grossed out about it but I never said anything because my dad was hit with a major depressive episode in my midteens. I later did some research about this online and learned that this was common with transwomen, after the effects of his HRT had plateaued within 3 years, he was then hit by a deep depression because the HRT was no longer working for him and making him feel euphoric. There were also many complications associated with his gender confirmation surgery which resulted in several emergency visits to the hospital during which I accompanied my Tdad as a young teenager trying to figure myself out. I had to sit there with my Tdad, listening to him discuss his "neovagina" and all his medical complications with the emergency surgeon. One time it was really bad, my dad fell unconcious, he literally fainted in my arms, and I had to tell the emergency paramedics who arrived: "My mother was born a man, but please, only use she/he pronouns when you bring her back", before having to explain that my Tdad had most likely collapsed from complications associated with his botched confirmation surgery and the cocktail of painkillers he was on to deal with his problems. My dad was experimenting with other drugs as well, assuming he knew what he was doing because "I am a retired scientist" which was his excuse for everything.

My grandma was the matriarch of the family and was always in conflict with my dad about my upbringing. She was old school and it must have been hard for her to watch her son transition at a time when this was still uncommon. I only remember my grandma from the early years of my childhood because I hardly ever saw her later. My Tdad decided to go NC on his mom and I wasn't allowed to visit her or even mention her in his presence. Tdad and grandma used to argue a lot. Once they had a fight about something stupid, something about a hairbrush, I don't even remember what the deal was. As my Ndad was trying to push grandma out of the room while she was screaming, she turned around and clocked him in the face with the hairbrush. I froze on the spot, I thought he was going to push her away or slap her across the face but he didn't. For some reason he couldn't. Later he told me about different incidents with grandma over the years. He told me that she was a narcissist, but I saw how they had a lot more in common than he was willing to admit. They were both broken people with their own ideas of how to do things the right way and unwilling to compromise.

To this day I wonder why Tdad did this to himself, why he thought this would change anything for the better. He never stopped to think about how this transition was affecting me. He demanded nothing but unconditional support of me, which was emotionally draining. If I ever raised an objection, he would accuse me that I didn't love him, and insist that unconditional love was all that mattered and all that was needed to keep it together. I have very conflicting feelings about love now. It's like no one will ever love me unless I am a doormat. I still have a hard time being intimate with others, like I can never let any of my loved ones know what I actually think about anything. People have described me as stoic, one ex-girlfriend even accused me of being a "cold calculating robot", and I guess that's what I have become after all these years living with a man who did not want to be reminded that he could never become a woman, no matter how bad things got for him, or for me.

I sometimes wonder whether my Tdad trying to become this "Penny" woman from Second Life was just a way for him to slowly kill himself because he wasn't man enough to do it quickly.

I won't lie, I kinda relish the idea of /u/Bardfinn's son ending up on /r/raisedbynarcissists just like his own father was once posting there about his mom, with /u/Bardfinn himself demanding that his own son's Reddit post be deleted for "transphobia".

It was confusing at first, because the thread r/drama links to is talking about a subreddit that Bardfinn does not mod.

But apparently at one point they did moderate this subreddit topmindsofreddit.

In this saga, some things are interesting... Bardfinn appears to have removed some of his own comments from the modhelp thread, but some of those those are quoted.

It looks like a moderator or some moderators of r/conservative had politely asked that subreddit to take action against users of their subreddit that were brigading r/conservative. When the mods of topmindsofreddit said that they could not see the brigading accounts that mod said that if they used "removeddit"...(a function of reddit to change the url and see what moderators have removed) they could see the brigade comments that had been removed by the moderators of r/conservative. Bardfinn became irate that the moderator suggested using removeddit...and accused him of trying to get them to use a hostile program. That moderator then decided to not remove the topminds brigaders the next time and contacted the mod team saying that their comments had been left up and they had been identified so that bardfinn or the other mods of topmindsofreddit could warn them or action them and he was told "I don't care" and "never contact us again." They said that it's enough that they had a warning not to participate in linked subreddits and this was enough to absolve them from any responsibility for anyone going from their subreddit to another and interfering. (This sounds very much like many of the allegations against againsthatesubreddits.)

But what is interesting is that Bardfinn is clearly caught in a web of lies here about what took place, based on provided screenshots.

And there's also some indication that Bardfinn admits to having had doxx information about a moderator on their computer. This guy says Bardfinn contacted him saying that someone else was trying to doxx him, but then in this thread Bardfinn is saying that someone did doxx him and Bardfinn had his doxx info on his computer.

It seems that Bardfinn has now been removed (maybe) from this topmindsofreddit mod team probably because they spoke as the whole subreddit mod team and said that there was only one moderator of conservative that they were willing to deal with even though, in this whole thing they claim that they had tried to deal with another moderator of r/conservative who they had doxx information on and at one point he all but calls that moderator a violent white supremacist in this conversation and then warns them not to contact him on reddit or anywhere else ever again.

The r/drama thread is fairly humorous, though. Bardfinn called them a terrorist sub and then likely tried to report the thread for harassment. They were having none of it.

I have no idea what this "plot" allegedly was. I did, however, notice something in this post.

Bardfinn says: "They also blamed me for someone posting child porn to their subreddits - child porn which remained up until Reddit's admins took the content down, because the "moderators" of those subreddits are not conscientious moderators."

How does Bardfinn know this? Moderators on reddit are volunteers and not necessarily available constantly. No one moderating a subreddit is thinking that child pornography is going to be placed on their subreddit. But it seems like Bardfinn was watching those child porn posts on that subreddit closely enough to know that the moderators did not catch it and the administrators had to remove it? Did Bardfinn message those moderators to let them know that child porn had been posted? Or apparently you can even anonymously report things to moderators of subreddits. Bardfinn did not do that? Instead Bardfinn observed the child porn being posted and then did nothing and simply observed that child porn and took note somehow of the fact that the moderators did not catch it and the administrators had to remove it?

That's very suspicious.

Let's read the whole moderator distinguished comment by Bardfinn and then make some observations.

"Rather than conduct a huge investigation that would consume my entire morning, I instead saved this picture, logged on to Facebook, and posted it to my Racist Uncle's "I Stand With Trump" Facebook group, to reap those exceptionally valuable Facebook Likes and gauge their opinion of the sentiment."

Steven's not only using some secret program to track reddit users, he stalks family members that he hates on Facebook. Careful Steven, if you try to report your family members for being racists because they like Trump, they will lose their jobs and no one will have the money to pay your next bail.

The post on topmindsofreddit appears to have been a false flag on the Donald Trump subreddit that was posted there and then immediately placed on topmindsofreddit by the same user in order to say, "Look how bad these people are." The moderators of the Trump subreddit apparently realized that it was a troll post and removed it. Instead of removing the post on topmindsofreddit, Bardfinn defends leaving it up because he posted it to his racist uncle's Facebook page and they liked it. It doesn't take an entire morning investigating to realize that the Trump subreddit took that post down. It takes ten minutes maximum. One would simply search the Trump subreddit for the post and find that it doesn't exist there because it was removed.

Also note this:

"I never said "It's real" and I never said "It's fake" -- I said "It's a Just-So Story that none of these dirtbag chuckleheads would be contesting, and all of them would be upvoting on T_D, if the account hadn't been censored by T_D and it's so richly ironic that they're not protesting T_D censoring the original poster, but are protesting me not jumping to comply with their backseat moderation cries of "It's About Ethics In T_D Journalism""

So Bardfinn admits that the post on the Trump subreddit did not appear and was censored by the moderators of that subreddit because they likely realized that it was posted by a troll and Bardfinn is complaining that people should be complaining that the moderators of the Trump subreddit removed the troll post?

You are right, Nyk...these social justice warriors are giant hypocrites.

And finally: Someone asks, "Why didn't you remove the post?"

Bardfinn says: "36 hours after it's posted, having gained 20 thousand upvotes, and having surfed the front page of r/all? I have a better question: Why aren't you surfing r/The_Donald and reporting Content Policy violations in that subreddit directly to the admins?"

So is Bardfinn saying that the moderators of topmindsofreddit "are not conscientious moderators." ?? Is that what she's saying? That by the time they realized that this whole popular submission was a hoax it had been up 36 hours and had hit the front page of reddit? Seems like they are not conscientious moderators to me.

Here's Bardfinn targeting /r/The_Cabal - no, that's not actually a reference to AHS, it was a site that was created to address the problem of supermods and the consolidation of power in the hands of a few supermods with no lives dictating politics and policy on Reddit:

Gallowboob, Merari, Dubteedub, n8thegreat, phedre, bardfinn, melinda (formerly T_Dumbsford), maybesaydie, worsethanhipster, Souxie Sue, Gabbikat, cakejerry, Belle Ariel, Quietus, Br00ce, ShaneH... and some slack names that I don't know as far as their reddit handles go...they were all involved as mods in this subreddit naming the subreddits that they wanted banned...

But I also have a slack chat... and it's long.... with these people in it talking about how the admins had finally come down on them to tell them to stop. Because they targeted all these subreddits and people started to notice on reddit that there was this subreddit demanding reddit bans that was moderated by some of the major powermods on reddit threatening to mass censor people from big subs if reddit did not ban the subs that they wanted banned. They wanted some obvious subreddits banned, like IIRC "cringeanarchy"... But also subs like The Donald, r/drama and even eventually Leagueoflegends.

The subreddit coincided with reddit banning some subreddits anyway, so these powermods decided to act like they had caused reddit to ban those subs and started naming other subreddits to be banned in "phases."

When they added Leagueoflegends the administator stepped in to stop them. It should have stopped long before that, because it was causing chaos on reddit with communities wondering if powermods were working with reddit and moderator teams fielding questions from their communities asking if they were going to be banned on all the major subreddits. The slack chat is funny because these powermods are bitching about all the hate mail and harassment they are getting... after THEY started it. They literally threatened people with banning from major subs and then bitched like whiny titty babies when people said, "What kind of asshole you?" Reddit admin stepped in and told them to stop because not only were they interfering with communities and fucking with other "not power" mods who had to deal with their bullshit... but they were making it hard for reddit to deal with harassment against THEM. That's right. These dickheads had to be told by reddit, "Hey... knock your troll shit the fuck off because it's making YOU targets of harassment and we can't deal with it." (They deserved every bit of harassment they got for their trolling.)

In the slack chat they are all discussing what they will do after the admin told them to stop. And it's really some remarkable shit. You have powermods talking about how they are going to go to the media with all this. How they will spin it. You have them bitching about harassment and laughing at the chaos they caused. There's infighting. Strugglesessions. Arguments over trans stuff... really, the slack chat thread has it all.

Bardfinn's in there being a disingenuous micropenis, of course. But it's a tale. I'll put it here... but it might actually belong in another Kiwifarms thread about reddit. Yes. There's a cabal of powermods that has reddit admins wrapped around their micropenises.

This "Friendly Society" that Bardfinn is always talking about being so sinister is apparently a private subreddit where a mod or mods of one of the subreddits targeted by "The Banout" literally added every moderator of the targeted subreddits to a private subreddit (without their invitation or permission) to discuss what may be happening and what these powermods were doing. Apparently r/againstgaymarriage was one of the targeted subs but Bardfinn modded r/againistgaymarrige... or something (one of the claimed subs I guess with a typo) and got invited briefly to this subreddit until they realized their mistake and kicked him out. But the thing is, this sinister subreddit "convened for the purposes of uniting harassing subreddits against mighty social justice warriors of peace" was a subreddit that no one really posted in and it was just literally a hodge podge of mods of subreddits targeted by The Banout 2018, in which Bardfinn was deeply...deeply...deeply involved to the point that most of the other powermods considered it to be trolling, but Steven took it very seriously.

By the way, in this slack chat when these powermods are saying , "Don't leak DM slack" to others there and vociferously saying "Do not leak DM slack"??? That stands for "default mods slack". The moderators of the "default" (read: most popular) subs on reddit have a slack channel with the admins. Default mods slack channel is considered sacred because the admins are in that slack with them.
