I started watching this shitfest-waiting-to-happen and the first thing I noticed was that the whole thing seems to have this weird, slightly gloomy vibe to me. Maybe it's just the background music and less saturated colors, but still.

As I've probably said many, many times before, these "fans" are basically parasites that latch onto whatever they can, kill it, and move on to the next object of their purely fake affection. They just want another thing to stuff full of their metaphorical eggs of "omg this promotes people being trans and black and disabled" up to bursting so they can spread their mind virus to more people. It's disgusting, and it makes me worry that eventually, people are simply going to stop doing anything interesting with fiction because if they do, these people will start sucking the life out of it and multiply even more.

You'd despise the Ava's Demon in that case, Megahertz. I find them to be neck-to-neck against the SU fandom in the case of terrible Tumblr fandoms.

Shit. I still have that in my bookmarks toolbar, collecting internet dust.

Definitely a reason why I stay clear of fandoms, Mechanism Eight. Being involved with fandoms of my favorite things and eventually getting sucked into the drama and bullshit would slowly kill my love for the thing. I still talk and geek out with my friends I've kept in these fandoms, and I still enjoy the nice materials (fan fiction and art and stuff) that come along, but fuck fandoms.

As for Ava's Demon, it's a neat comic, but holy fucking shit stay out of the fandom.

More and more, I'm starting to wonder why I'm more lenient & respectful of unpopular cartoons of any kind more... @Mechanism Eight & @Slam_Jam have really put some things into perspective, regarding all of this BS - even if I do like this show (or anything else with this kind of fanbase, unfortunately...), better ones as of late have been made that are not tainted by this BS. I can't stress this enough!

In fact, I'm starting to wonder if this show was ever even good to begin with..... The same goes for anything popular on in the internet right now that these stupid people won't STFU about over the shows that no one talks about that are actually far superior, in reality, especially if they do well with kids, and not basement dwellers and man-children, like this show (and many of its ilk) can only seem to cater to after awhile.

I still find it to have a lot of merits and if anything, the fact they went ahead with the UG ep is basically the opposite of pandering without directly attacking anyone.

But honestly? I do get where you're coming from. At least as far as the questioning goes. When I see people clamouring over a character or piling on sjw shit ("1 in 4" being a common one) I'm very quickly skeptical of it. While I don't feel the same on SU as you do, I've got similar feelings elsewhere
Like you wouldn't believe how utterly sick I am of seeing Charizard plastered everywhere. Pokemon anime? CHarizard. Origins? Charizard. That mega evolution special? Charizard. Smash 4? Charizard gets in and the other starter reps get dropped. Main games? Charizard gets two mega evolutions and a shiny event. It's not like there's two other gen1 starter lines you could use that should be equals and are infinitely more interesting or anything!

So yeah, I get it. You're seeing people hype something waaaaay beyond what they're worth and as a result, you're going in the opposite direction and starting to dislike it because of that hype where you'd probably be willing to be a bit more fair on it if you didn't have to put up with that overselling something, kinda like I'd be able to tolerate Charizard if it even remotely treated as equals with Venusaur and Blastoise.

... Sorry, went on a bit of a tangent there didn't I?

More tl;dr example, it's like how people might be willing to go easy on a bad artist who's not very popular but not on one who thinks they're hot shit.

I'm supposed to be in bed, but fuck it, I've gotta get this off my chest before I lose steam. I've got classes to get to in a few hours, so this will be rushed. I apologize for the mess.

The praise Steven Universe is getting is the exact same shit other shows, like Legend of Korra, have gotten. What happened to Korra? It disappeared. Just like that. Gone. I hardly see any mention of it anymore. Oh, and the same thing happened to Adventure Time as well. It got praised for being so inclusive that it was revolutionary. Tumblr fucking LOVED Adventure Time. But what happened to that? Same thing that happened to Korra - swept under the rug. Unfortunately, the same thing will happen to Steven Universe once it has run its course (ie the community gets bored and/or disappointed).

The biggest problem I find that the Tumblr fandom community has is that they put these shows on the highest pedestal I have ever seen for anything, even higher than dating expectations. If the show has this and that, it's pure gold. It absolutely must stick to that or else the fandom loses its shit. That is exactly what we saw with the Uncle Grandpa crossover. This is just the beginning of what's to come. I always feel so bad for the people behind these shows because so much pressure is put on them to try to keep these Tumblr fans happy or else they get shat on in the worse ways (ie death threats, the ultimate weapon for these nutsos). This is why I find fandoms so draining because having such high expectations poisons any fun and enjoyment you feel for the show. It's so toxic. All you feel is disappointment when your expectations that you yourself have put onto this thing you love and spend so much time on are not met. As what happened with Korra and Adventure Time and blah blah blah, the same will happen to Steven Universe. The fandom community will move on once something else "revolutionary" steps in. It's the same vicious cycle over and over and over.

It will never stop until these people realize what is so wrong with their thought process. Steven Universe is cute, sure. Steven Universe has a wide cast of interesting characters (and they're not perfect like the fandom tries so hard to make them out to be). Is it the greatest thing to exist since sliced bread? Of course not. As I've said, Steven Universe has done a mixture of things other shows have done. For example, the show Clarence has a child with two moms. I don't see Tumblr go crazy over that. Somehow Steven Universe is better because Steven has THREE moms that are all in these special categories they love. Steven Universe is not revolutionary like they make it out to be. Like every other show that has followed its formula, Steven Universe is just a small step in the direction they want. You want revolutionary? You want a big change in this right direction? One show won't do that. The biggest step of all has to come from the industry itself to change. THAT is what most of the Tumblr community is not seeing nor understanding.

It's amusing that they are trying to be the fun police of a children's cartoon. I think they are just upset and forget
That because of how much they wan't the deep storyline and deep lore. With none of the lighthearted jokes unless it's for "feels".
also, I must be one of the few people who still care about adventure time :heart-empty:

I don't know if this has already been mentioned in this thread (also this is not tumblr-related), but just for funsies I stumbled upon this guy's videos a few weeks ago.

All this reminds me of are the horrible Warrior Cats animations people did in MS paint in 2007. I didn't know that SU would get the same treatment, I love it.

My recommendation to anyone starting a cartoon series where they intend to have intelligent, possibly even politically progressive themes, is to START OUT STUPID.

Front-load it with fart jokes, dudes in dresses, and all the things tumblr hates. They'll immediately write it off and you won't risk the curse of attracting a tumblr "fandom" that just wants to suck all the life out of it and leave its dried up husk by the side of the road when the next shiny thing comes along.

Put things into perspective? I just shit out stupid comments from time to time about how I've seen this shit so many times with everything and anything, be it a popular cartoon or a small shared setting made by a community. These people are a filthy fucking plague that kill originality and interesting stories in the name of what they believe to be the true face of the work they "love" so much. I know I fuckin' take fiction way too seriously, but I'm smart enough to know that true diversity comes from chaos and imbalance, not "equality" or whatever unobtainable goal these fuckwits actually want that would actually result in no one, not even them being happy.

These people will never be happy. Again, they're putting these shows on a high pedestal. They like what they want and expect from it, completely ignoring what the show actually is. That's why kids loved the UG crossover because they didn't have such high expectations for it and enjoyed it for what it was.

Well if I was to interpret that "Chaos and Imbalance" I think it just refers to such:

Just do it naturally

You want this character here? Do it. You want this guy to be gay? Let him love as many dudes as he likes

The other way being basically "checklist" equality. It's not "let's consider this character and what we can do with them, ect" but "Gay character? Check. Lesbian? Check. Only exactly equal numbers of women to men? Check!" where it literally feels like going through a checklist.

It's kinda like that one Dobson tweet of "Oh I should have a trans character"

It's like, well, a checklist and it shows.
