John is like an inexperienced college freshman who tries his damnedest to spice up his resume by making every entry level job sound like rocket science. He didn't just pay other people to program a game he was the idea guy for, he's a "software engineer". He didn't just write some unpaid editorials for the school newspaper, he was an "investigative journalist".
