I'm more befuddled by the disconnect of "we have food at home that needs milk to make" and then going "gimme a five so i can get a one time meal" instead of... asking for money for the milk...? Which is like $6 from a quick google? Doing it the way she did was outright inviting someone to yell at her.
I've been watching Kayla repeat the exact same idiotic cycles for what seems like millennia now and I still maintain that she argues with these anons as a way to try and vicariously defeat her own guilty conscience. If she can epically pwn the meanies on the Internet, maybe it'll soothe the (completely justified) inner judge in her head that's saying the exact same things as them, and she won't feel so shitty when she willfully chooses to make awful decisions. Nick's a pushover and has been since the beginning of their relationship, that's why Kayla latched onto him so hard. He allows her to be a parasite, and is even fine with her emotionally cheating on him by bringing a random ass third (Gems) into their "relationship". On top of that, Kayla made fun of how he's "constantly horny" because he's on T, yet she doesn't offer to help because of her "sex trauma". Nick gets absolutely nothing from this relationship.
If Nick truly feels like a man, he's probably protective of her because she's obviously female regardless of what she tries to label herself as and emotionally volatile so he feels like he's the stable breadwinner in the household
