I wasn't sure where to stick this at, but thought it was of some interest to highlight someplace, but within a week, a piece of animation production software highly utlized by famliar studios like Ghibli for the past 20+ years is finally getting an open source release to the public. It'll be called "OpenToonz" and will feature many of the same tools as its former "Toonz" software along with modifications made by Studio Ghibli for their workflow.

I first learned Toonz way, way back in the early 2000's and how it was used by studios like Ghibli or Fox's brief stint in feature animation involving Don Bluth (Anastasia) as well as the classic TV series Futurama, so it's nice to see another "no excuse" app anyone can try if they want (though I'm sure certain people will never change).
