Admittedly I love the game. Played it a while back in an earlier version but I avoid doing that too consistently, just causes fatigue over the entire development cycle. Any survival game where I can build underwater bases is something I love.

It seems like the fate of most survival games although when I played it recently it seemed rather well thought out and that it might provide a good deal of playthough. For me it feels like once you've dumped 100+ hours into one survival game they all offer about the same experience.
I lasted 2 hours:
The farming for dumb shit never seems to have much of a payoff beyond just being able to build more dumb shit in the game so idk... According to Steam "Fallout" is classed as a Survival game, which I guess makes sense. If they had the same quality of narrative as something like Fallout NV combined with the crafting/building/survival elements it might be more attractive.
I'd be more whiny about these games, but for 20 bucks a pop its not like it really matters.
Anyway there's never any fucking shortage of "survival games" that pretty much offer the exact same concept with just a reskin. There's even another new hit survival game on the Steam front page:

Some of the hardest working people I've ever known have been socialists, and some of the most generous have been "heartless capitalists."
Also my general opinion of conservatives softened a lot when in the academic environment, they were consistently more tolerant of differing opinions than the supposedly "tolerant" liberals. Perhaps because of the prevailing atmosphere, they have to be, but I certainly noticed that a liberal's response to a differing opinion was REEEEEEEE and a conservative's was to suggest better arguments against their own position and then shoot those down, too.
My point is that fiscal conservativism is not something public universities really like because they want to gobble down as much cash as they can, and the government is a swelling teat full of delicious green money juice. I can get why universities are hostile to that. Doesn't mean I agree with it--and I'm brutally fiscally conservative, myself. Look at how thunderf00t responded to Brexit. He hated it pretty much bases solely on a lack of UN funding. The arts hate it because conservatives are likely to ax the arts first; scientists hate it because they know conservatives would likely cut funding to their research. Sometimes unjustly so, look at Rand Paul, (as much as I like him) talk about government spending on stupid studies--a lot of those studies aren't as stupid as he implies, willfully misstating the purpose of those studies, something like whether rabbits breed more on drugs is probably actually a comparative psychology study on brain structures, for instance. But all you need to do to get a scientist to side against you is to argue to cut his research funding.
I can't say I share your opinions of socialists. Maybe they work hard if they are their own boss, but I've heard too many socialists openly bragging about shoplifting from work or letting people shoplift (and both) that I am not impressed with their work ethic. If socialists were by-and-large hard workers then socialist communes and collectives would be far more efficient (probably).
Anyway I'm going off topic, I'm not talking anymore about this.

I do have to say that I fucking love the idea of taking this shit to the public. "Yo, people are bitching because you can't play as a woman. Do you want us to shift work over to that, or should we continue on our plan to do X, Y, and Z next?"
Then when the results are 75% in favor of making the game better over pandering, you can just point to the evidence and say "shut the fuck up, the people have spoken and you don't represent them". This is also evidence you can take to your publisher (if you have one) to show that the Twitter bullshit is just that, bullshit.
I hope more indie devs do this tbh.

It is interesting that the fired guy had no problem with the internet slandering him but she folded the moment wind blew her direction.
Maybe that dev being fired was a good thing then. From the looks of it he's a chill guy and the rest of the dev team supporting his firing are a bunch of echochambering pansies. Maybe he can find future work with people that actually have a spine and a brain.
It's a good game, but the devs have been total spergs behind the scenes.
To the point that they decided to virtue signal and let their autistic anti-gun agenda negatively affect the game.
You can make knifes and exo-suits that can punch things to death, but no guns. Because guns are evil or some bullshit. All the while, they made the enemies hyper aggressive.
It really undermines their virtue-signalling because you'll constantly be wishing you had a gun to shoot the swarms of aggressive critters.

Eh, I want to bash on these devs more than anyone but the lack of guns serves the survival theme a lot, the game is completely about building, gathering, and most of all exploration in hostile environments. People would end up playing combat in it and would complain that the combat sucks because it's not fleshed out or whatever. It's a game where you're supposed to be freaked out and tense a lot of the time. Games like Amnesia similarly have no weapons to fight off the monsters. The lack of guns in this game doesn't feel political or soapboxy.
Subnautica, particularly in VR, is a very, very good game, honestly, even if they claim they got the idea for being anti-gun. I hate to admit it. If you don't want to support the devs pirate the game, but it's worth playing. And the sound designer that got fired? He did a great job, they're fucking idiots for firing him because tumblr got its panties in a bunch. I fucking hate San Francisco studios.
