This is something that just came up on my mind, and feel free to call me ridiculous, but it's something I'm seriously considering if people could pull off somehow.

Let's just say something comes up (i.e. the woke pull off starting a communist state, etc) that starts a call for several more pro-capitalism states and reigons to pull out of the United States and form their own country. Would it work somehow, and would it last for very long? Seeing the current state of the Democratic Party, I don't think it would happen, but I just want your thoughts on this.

I've always though there should be lots of states with a variety of governments to give choice, but states tend to centralize and conquer each other. We'll just have to settle with states rights for now

It would take a lot for a state to secede. They get a ton of federal benefits for its citizens for staying through programs. However, states should have the option to secede.

If you are a federalist country, and you don’t allow your states to leave the contract, that’s like a marriage where only the wife can’t decide to divorce, and so the husband can mistreat her any way he wants. Have a parade of hookers leave their bedroom, make her a human dishwasher, even forget her birthday.

Anyway it gives states the ability to negotiate because it is in fact a two-way relationship between state and federal. Both strengthenting the other.

States are heavily reliant on the Federal government funding to maintain and develop infrastructure. The logistics of any sort of non-violent separation would be nightmarish for both sides, and a violent parting of ways would be even worse.

It wouldn't last half a month. Given it would require much labor to keep their infrastructure afloat and modern commies (white American trust fund kids from upper middle class) are fucking lazy as shit and expect gibs 24/7.

The United States is an indivisible union. The period when we could have balkanized passed in the 1860's with the decisive defeat of the secessionist cause. At this point the US could conceivably entire periods of disunion. Much like China's warring States period. But the union of the American nation will remain paramount and even if we enter a period of civil conflict the goal of all the parties will be the inevitable reunification of the whole under their dominion.

America is in it for the long haul at this point. What we will look like centuries from now is an interesting question though. I expect it will be unrecognizable to us living here now. Hell, if we follow the standard model of Republics, eventually shit will hit the fan and a Monarchy will take over to restore order. If I was a betting man, the odds on best bet will be over the next 500 years the US democratic system will break down into warring factions. However, the vast majority of the US Population is fairly conservative and religious. More importantly though the "manifest destiny" doctrine is very much alive and well in America, and any effort to bring about disunion will run smack into it and empower anyone willing to restore order and the union.

Really far outside bet is restoration of the Union of the British Empire between America, Canada, and the UK under the crown of the house of Windsor. For such a thing to happen though would require major upheaval in all three countries, and the acknowledgement of the American portion as the senior realm.

tl;dr, no, America will not balkanize. We can't. We are one American people despite the fervant desire of the Democratic Party to argue otherwise. They will get theirs for it though. Its already beginning.

We could balkanize, but not with the current set of facts on the ground. Things would have to get bad- like, Venezuela bad- before places like Texas and California start saying "fuck it, we're outtie." However, I do think that once the first domino fell it would be a mad dash to the exit; it's been pointed out that one of the main things keeping secessionism from gaining momentum was Lincoln's resolve that nobody gets out of the Union except in a body bag.

Though frankly, I think it's naive to say that the defeat of the Confederacy "settled" the question of secession. How many times did the Irish secede before it actually took? The various Eastern Bloc states? There's a lot of precedent for waiting a few generations and trying again.
