Man shot dead by police as two stabbed in London terror attack

The attacker was wearing a fake suicide vest. Police said they believe the incident is 'Islamist-related'.

A number of people are believed to have been stabbed in a terror attack in south London. Police said: ‘A man has been shot by armed officers in Streatham. At this stage it is believed a number of people have been stabbed. ‘The circumstances are being assessed; the incident has been declared as terrorist-related.’ Police earlier said they were dealing with an ‘incident’.

They warned people to stay away from the area. Video from the scene shows police and paramedics attending while a helicopter circles overhead. A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘We have a number of resources attending an incident in #Streatham High Road, more information to follow.’ This is a breaking news story and will be update.

What do we know so far?

• Shortly after 14:00 GMT on Sunday, witnesses on social media reported hearing gunshots fired on Streatham High Road
• The Met Police said that a number of people were believed to have been stabbed
• Police said a man who was shot by armed officers died from his injuries
• The incident was declared as "terrorist-related" by police
• London Ambulance Service said they were attending the scene
• Many videos have been posted of the scene on social media. One recording - verified by the BBC - shows a man lying on the ground with at least three armed police officers holding firearms pointed in his direction
• The scene has been sealed off - with at least six police cars, two ambulances and half a dozen paramedic vehicles in attendance
