Well, the game is out and it's good as expected.
Let's trade tips and snapshots.

Some Information from MarioWiki:
Super Mario Odyssey is a platforming game for the Nintendo Switch released on October 27, 2017. It is the sixteenth title in the Super Mario series, the seventh original 3D Mario title, the eighth 3D Mario title overall, and the sixth 3D Mario title on a home console after Super Mario 3D World. The game revolves around Mario exploring unknown open world-like settings, similar to Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. These settings have been stated to bear resemblances to locations in the real world

It's been fun so far, definitely the best-looking Mario game to date, but it's shaping up to be the biggest to date. Lots of exploration to do per kingdom and that means lots of secrets to uncover. On the aspect of kingdoms, I think it's really cool we're seeing these places outside of the Mushroom Kingdom. If I have to nitpick about something, it's the fact it seems to be playing off of nostalgia a little too much. There's a lot of recycled ideas implemented that make you think "Hey, that's like Super Mario 64!" (Sand Kingdom takes so many cues from Shifting Sand Land, for instance) and "Hey, that's like Super Mario Sunshine!" and stuff like that.

However, I think it's really fucking cool how they implemented the original Mario Brothers side-scrolling into the levels (at least starting with the Cascade Kingdom). Yeah, it's still an obvious shout-out, but the amount of detail that went into it is amazing. Probably my favorite aspect of the game so far.

I also joked to my brother in that you can definitely tell Bowser waited 30-fucking-years to take out his frustration on Mario........'s hat, of all things. Something about that tickles my funny bone.

(Not sure if this is a spoiler since we only just reached the Wooded Kingdom, but it's an observation of something that may come to pass, so...)

My brother and I are taking notice of these odd steel/metallic blocks that show up in each level--we're jokingly calling them "poneglyphs" because we're speds--that we have no clue what to do with at this moment. I'm thinking something's up with those, it can't be a coincidence these blocks are showing up everywhere.

Every time I transform into something I get a pop up message at the bottom of the screen telling me how to use the controls. Is there any way to turn that off?

I've been having a lot of fun with Bing Bing Yahoo.com so far. Wish you could skip the moveset shit between countries though.

Started the game yesterday. So far it's average at best. There's no difficulty except for messing up during the capturing. The game is even easier than Super Mario 3D Land (and 3D World). There's very little platforming and the game relies way too heavily on capturing (throwing the hat to control an enemy). By the time you've seen practically everything in the worlds you only have half the required moons and you now have to go out of your way to find the rest of the required moons. The exploration really isn't that interesting either.

Mario gets lower leg fractures on both legs during the events in New Donk city, and is confined to a wheelchair for the remainder of the game. This is where the capturing mechanic comes into its strengths, as it is now Mario's only option for getting around.
I was surprised at how the level and enemy designers built around this, and it feels like a true evolution to the gameplay. A heartwarming and inspirational game from start to finish. 10/10
