Been putting this off for awhile cause holidays, but some neat information concerning both Nadesico and Gundam 0083.
A canon plot point of Nadesico often used to springboard it into the plot is that Nergal built the ship the Earth Federation wanted for their own purposes (generally for a war effort of some sort), Nergal initially stiffarmed them, the EF went full retard and tried to seize it, and after the initial trip Mars ended in disaster (the details vary, but the Nadesico is always forced to flee), Nergal changed it's mind and decided to cooperate with the Federation anyway, but generally because the initial Mars trip was to cover Nergal's ass at the time, essentially a smokescreen to make sure certain facts about Nergal would NOT get out to Federation, and by the time it was obvious the Feddies were none the wiser, Nergal changes it's mind and lets their ship get drafted along with the crew, generally saying "our mission to rescue people on Mars ended in failure, we have no reason to refuse to help the Federation now".
The exact wording of this changes depending on game, but this is how the full Nadesico cast joins the team in most games.
Gundam 0083's main hook is the theft of the GP-02 by Zeon, the exact how's and why can vary past this, but this is how 0083 shows up in the plot. The use of the nuke cannon by Gato to hose over the Feddie Naval Review will usually play a role, but not always (it never came up in SRW3, Gato instead turned the nuke on his own team when he was pissed to discover they were selling out to the alien forces and later would join your team in the Neue Ziel), and past that, the plot can be cut up and reassembled with whatever bits and pieces the writers find convenient.
Finally, let's cover the Aestivalis frames.
In series, they had five frames:
0G (Zero Gravity): Default module. Good in space, meh in air and ground, crap in water.
Aerial: Outstanding air mobility, crap in most other terrains.
Ground: Good on Earth and sea, crap elsewhere, cannot fly at all.
Launcher/Artillery: Generally best on Earth, these are the heavy weapons versions. Slow, but loaded down with cannon fire weapons.
Lunar: A modified 0G frame that was made for punching holes in ships and overwhelming Distortion Fields. Most games tend to compensate for them being pretty OP compared to the other frame by gimping the free energy restore effect they get while within the Nadesico's command radius, usually by making sure their weapons are not energy based and have limited ammo.
