He sounded really proud while explaining that 5D chess move in the original video, but I guess he figured out it sounds better when you leave that part out.

I was talking to a friend who likes fighting games the other day, and he told me that Hax's super specially designed, rigorously engineered controller is really just a regular HitBox pad with some extra buttons added on. How accurate is this? If it is, it makes Hax's defensiveness of "his" controller and design and his rants about how perfect and important it is was doubly absurd.

It's a HitBox, but its functionalities have been intentionally nerfed at the software level to give it less of an advantage. So he engineered the controller, then engineered some flaws into it when people realized it was too good.

It also has weird button combinations to choose soft vs hard presses for the gamecube's analog sticks and shoulder buttons, so it's a bit more than just a HitBox.
