As someone who has witnessed this whole trend, let me give an introduction to those who want to know the history behind it. Funnily enough this is almost similar to the history of Pooh's Adventures, but the quality is better than Pooh's Adventures (but not saying much)

Anyway, this whole "Smash Bros. Lawl" trend started by chincherrinas, (https://www.youtube.com/user/chincherrinas/videos) a Mexican YouTube user who made some random YTPs and other stuff. I kinda have to admit that I liked his stuff as a guilty pleasure and still today. Here's an example of a vid he made before the Smash Bros. Lawl videos:

After some random YTPs, he decided to make a video in 2009, showing a "What If" spin for the Smash Bros. Brawl series. The first one he made is this, and at that time the term "Smash Bros. Lawl" vid hasn't even been coined yet, and it's just "Smash Bros. Brawl Moveset - I. M. Meen" afaik.

As of now, this gained literally over 90,000 views, more than any past videos he made. He then later made more videos about this, later branching out to more variety vids about it. The whole series focuses more on Internet Memes and YouTube Poops with some exceptions like the character "Madotsuki" from Yume Nikki.

After the large amount of views he got for these vids, he then made more series like the "The Frollo Show" and "The Leet Fighters", but that's another story.

Currently, he's making less vids, and thus the whole fandom began for tons of fanmade and spin-off stuff about Smash Bros. Lawl. There are tons of fan made wikis for this shit, even more than Pooh's Adventures which stays for just one:

Reminds me of when I use to frequent some dumb-ass flash site years ago (the name "Legendary Frog" comes to mind, don't know why) and I loved this SSB flash clone that had non-Nintendo characters in it. Hitler already features prominently in a game. Ever since he got patched in, the only reason anybody plays Elite Sniper V2 is to kill Hitler over and over by shooting his balls off. It helps that Sniper V2 is also a really great game.

This Hitler one is actually based on chincherrinas' original series. At that time when chincherrinas' series was popular the motto for the series is "What happens if Sakurai has tons of money and zero copyright problems" (As in a "What If" style) with a YouTube Poop/Internet Meme twist before the fandom turns it into "OMG THIS SHIT MUST HAPPEN IN SMASH BROS!!!1"
