Agree. When children are neglected/abused and it stunts their development they tend to show autistic type traits. This probably is why her diagnosis was changed to that. She probably shows repititive behaviors and fixations and in a way the diagnosis is a good thing it could be used to get her out of her situation but not opening up that can of worms.
I also think in this case it would have been the necessary wake up call to Susan (had she had any sense) to acknowledge that her children needed radically different treatment to what she was trying to push on them. I think the court probably naively assumed that she was just a misguided parent, one who,-rather archaically- maintains that there is a strict medical diet for a given diagnosis and she therefore reacted to the children's behaviour accordingly. In actuality, she's just insane and incapable of perceiving reality as it's warped by how own bipolar-ravaged mind.
In sum, I get the impression that the diagnosis of autism constantly reminding Susan her kids were not schizophrenic was supposed to be a subliminal part of Susan's rehabilitation as a parent.
Interestingly, i think this pretty much confirms that Susan's recent claims (as parroted through Jani) that the Sz diagnosis has been reinstated are bullshit. She just needs the label and people's belief in it to comfort herself, let the utter meaningless of her identity as a warrior mom set in.
