I tried reading it about five years back. It’s awful, probably not as bad as Black Tokyo only because Black Tokyo has more material.
27 for Otherverse America https://rpggeek.com/rpgsetting/7995/otherverse-america compared to 31 for Black Tokyo https://rpggeek.com/rpgsetting/22761/black-tokyo so actually close in term of thatI tried reading it about five years back. I was buying a reprint of an old Ravenloft supplement (When Black Roses Bloom) at DriveThruRPG and noticed that there was a content warning on the page about how some of the stuff may be offensive (given how it was made years ago) and how the site doesn't stand for that stuff. I'm glad they're still publishing this stuff, but the warning is pretty much on all the old D&D stuff.
It's too bad they totally sanitized the Vistani in 5e from gypsies to a happy group of demihumans that are always welcome and respected. Its on 100% of all WotC shit, I think even on 5e.
Its the Woopie Goldberg talking about Mammie before Tom & Jerry.
Honestly? Fine by me. I don't have to read the content warning, and it's better than going in and editing the book.I was buying a reprint of an old Ravenloft supplement (When Black Roses Bloom) at DriveThruRPG and noticed that there was a content warning on the page about how some of the stuff may be offensive (given how it was made years ago) and how the site doesn't stand for that stuff. Yeah, I've lived next door to gypsies. Imagine an entire culture built upon being a total fucking loser.Everyone hates the Gypsies, even the Gypsies.
I'm glad they did that. Makes the orginal books without them worth more.I was buying a reprint of an old Ravenloft supplement (When Black Roses Bloom) at DriveThruRPG and noticed that there was a content warning on the page about how some of the stuff may be offensive (given how it was made years ago) and how the site doesn't stand for that stuff. So it seems TSR first game will be Giantlands, which will be more like gamma world. I wanted to check their site but it is not working properly on my end, have they released any information about the system? Really intrigued by this.

They want to build a LARP theme park? Is this something Gary wanted to do, or is this junior taking a shot at becoming Walt Disney? While you can play this game at a table, it’s also the key to a new active world, where live-action roleplay and costumes are encouraged. Soon you’ll also be able to join us at live events and a GiantLands theme park where you can go on adventures as your favorite characters in a living game world!

Well, at least that should harken back to the early days of D&D. If I could find my old AD&D books I'd post some photos of all the tables you needed to consult in that game.tl;dr Static damage weapons, seems like there will be lots of table look up... it could still be good, just don't feel the need to spend most of a c-note to find out, but interest mainly killed by the setting.
Remember, kids: the 80s and 90s were rife with environmental stories! Captain Planet didn't pop out of a vacuum, after all. If you're going for the retro style, you're also getting the retro stories.tl;dr on the setting, in the very near future Evil Capitalists finally hurt Earth Mother Gaia enough she wakes up and purges humanity with a rain of comets that also reawaken the Giants. Characters will be trying to heal the earth to gain fabulous powers, while also trying to fight the giants or something.
And this goes right back to my previous post: these guys need a reality check before they cringe their way into bankruptcy. I suppose "dungeon master" would result in a lolsuit from WotC, but what's wrong with "game master"?Also the GM is called the Spirit Keeper and they have an official Spirit Keeper mask that is a rip off of a plague doctor. (Like that staff wielding thing on the cover art)

Still, these stories tended to be more earnest and less deconstruction-, guilt- and sarcasm-happy than modern takes. So I'd like to see at least how their introductory adventure goes.

Basic setting instantly turned me off to this.I was debating tossing $80 to welcome TSR back (even before I saw the trannies getting vapors) and see if the game was any good, but with a little more digging I've opted to pass on a preorder. I'll wait and see if other folks think this is any good.
