Fast-food chain Taco Bell is changing the chicken game with a new version of its Naked Chicken Chalupa wrapped in a shell made entirely from vegan chicken.​

Today, Taco Bell unveiled its newest menu innovation: a chalupa shell made entirely from vegan chicken. Developed by innovators at Taco Bell’s Test Kitchen, the vegan chicken shell is made from a proprietary pea protein-based blend that is breaded and fried. Taco Bell is testing the shell in the limited-time Naked Chalupa with a Crispy Plant-Based Shell, a meat-free version of its Naked Chicken Chalupa filled with lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and avocado ranch sauce, created to give more customers the same indulgent option.

“At Taco Bell, we’re pushing the limits of what people have known vegetarian and vegan items to look like within the quick-service restaurant industry,” Missy Schaaphok, Senior Manager of Global Nutrition and Sustainability at Taco Bell, told VegNews. “No matter one’s lifestyle, everyone should have access to delicious and crave-able food, whether that’s in the shape of our iconic Chalupa shell or in a way that we have yet to introduce.”

The Naked Chalupa with a Crispy Plant-Based Shell—ordered vegan by omitting the dairy cheese and ranch sauce–is priced at $3.49 (plus tax) each and is available until June 27, or while supplies last, at the Taco Bell location at 2222 Barranca Pkwy in Irvine, CA.

If you're a hopeless fatass, you could do worse than Taco Bell for a weight loss scheme. As long as you don't over eat their food and skip the soda, most of it goes to waste and doesn't make you fat.
Replace "Taco Bell" in the above post with any restaurant name, other than maybe a confectionary, and it's just as true.

Isn't the corn shell already vegan? Do they actually make them authentically with Lard? I refuse to believe it's not highly processed corn meal and soy bean oil anyway.
No, they’re talking about the naked chalupa shell that’s made from chicken breast. The vegan version is made of pea protein.

Yay, keep getting rid of favorites and replacing them with these “healthy” vegetarian/vegan options all boldly highlighted on the menu. :mad:

I want the Fresca menu back that includes stuff like pico and steak. Not because it’s “healthier” or anything, but because it tasted really good. Also, the Frutista Freeze was a great drink.

Yeah, going to Taco Bell for “health” reasons misses the point IMO. Steak queserito was one of the best (albeit pricey-er) things on the menu, but it was worth it.

It was before my time, but I heard of the legendary Bell Beefer sandwich (a kind of Mexican sloppy Joe). I would give that crazy thing a try. Hell, they can use impossible/whatever fake taco meat and bring that back. I’d eat it!
