Sonichu Taffy's Annotated Sonichu - Simonchu and Bananafunkle finished!

It took me an entire year, but it's done.

And chapter 22 of GitM for good measure-

Thanks for waiting, everyone. I promise, I absolutely promise this time, that I'm going to turn over a new leaf in 2020. I'm absolutely going to finish Sonichu 11, 12, and 12-9 next year (I'm still up in the air about doing the Idea Guy issue, as I don't want to get kicked off of Tumblr, plus the pictures we have of most of it are pretty lousy, and it's all textwalls). I've also given myself a hard deadline of March 17 2020 (Sonichu's 20th Anniversary) for the TAS video, I've been working really hard on that. I'm also about 40% of the way done with GitM, and while I'm not certain it'll be completely done by this time next year, I'm further along than I thought.

Merry CWCmas to all of Godbear's people, have a happy Hanukkah and a happy candle cookie, enjoy your jolly Buddha, and Inos says happy Kwanzaa. Merry CWCmas to all and to all a good night.

~~~~~~
Oh wait I totally forgot about the revised ending *record scratch and the sound of "Seasons of Love" rewinding*
Yeah I'll try to get that done next week. I'd also like to get a little bit of the Christmas special done before Christmas.
Measure your life in lulz everybody.
This has been quite the week. I've finished my third (publishable) swing at TAS: the Movie:
So, about a month ago, I got a real microphone as an early CWCmas present. So I've been playing around with it, and I still haven't worked out exactly how I'm going to use it going forward. I'm also new to Adobe Audition (which I did not use on my first two videos), and I haven't mastered that either. I still have a lot of learning to do when it comes to audio mixing and editing (yeah, there's a lot of weird pauses in there; I'll do a better job when I rerecord the audio again.)
I feel like even throughout the course of this video I improved. Sonichu 0's voice track is admittedly kinda painful to listen to, but by the end I was a lot better (though the mixing with the background music could maybe use some work.) I imagine by March I'll be a pro.
Merry CWCmas, one and all!
(Don't worry, I'm not going to take five years to upload the next section. My family drives half way across the country every other Christmas and they let me do exactly zero driving, which is when I got most of this done, and I have a long return trip coming soon for even more Sonichu goodness. I just had to stop here because my family is wondering where I am, since they don't understand how important Sonichu is.)
I would certainly not explain to my family about Chris Chan, Sonichu, or all the shitposting we do here. Husband is a fellow Christorian but my blood family would lock me up. Obvs real world commitments come first anyway.
So, as TAS limps into its third year, here's my schedule for 2020 in SWT:
  • By end of February - this is the point where I'd like to be done with all of Sonichu 11. I know I haven't been the best with deadlines, but I think if I force myself into a hard deadline then I'll be more likely to get it done. I was pretty good on getting things done last year when I gave myself a specific day deadline (Chris and Sonichu's birthdays for more Sonichu 10, Christmas for the first part of the Christmas special), so I think if I tell myself "29 February 2020" the more likely I am to meet that deadline.
  • 17 March 2020 - My hard deadline for the TAS video. At this moment, I'm actually thinking I might get it done earlier, since it's coming along quite nicely right now, but I'm still going to give myself until 17 March.
  • Approx. April-May - when I expect to be done with the Pokedex project on the SWT DA. I might start another much, much, much smaller project there afterward, but that's a bridge I'll cross when I get there.
  • Late Summer/Early Fall - expected conclusion of TAS: Sonichu 12.
  • By the end of the year - expected conclusion of TAS: Sonichu 12-9. I'm really hoping that by then, there'll be better scans of the later pages.
  • I'm not setting any hard deadlines for GitM, but given that I know Chapters 22-26 are all going to be a lot shorter than the rest, I imagine I'll probably get them out fairly soon. I'd like to at least to Chapter 36 (which is the end of Sonichu 8 ) by the end of the year.
I'll probably have to go back to community college in the middle of January, seeing as I've gone two full semesters without yelling Dragon Ball curses at the dean, but I'm trying to convince my mom I'll only need one or two classes this semester. I might actually going back to an actual college in the fall, hence I'm keeping the deadlines for the second half of the year much more broad.
Regardless, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for TAS, and I do need to think about my life after TAS. I'm not certain what the future of SWT is going to look like, but I know it won't be on Tumblr. Tumblr's been surprisingly nice to me (I kinda expected to be kicked out, like, immediately), and I do very much enjoy it as a host for my content, but I do know I've sort of reached a plateau there. Semi-ironic fans of Sonichu are already a niche fanbase, but especially on Tumblr. While I appreciate the people that follow TAS on Tumblr, again I feel like I have reached a plateau at ~130. If TAS: the Movie is a success, I may move to YouTube for my post-TAS career. I'm not expecting to be the next Pewdiepie or anything (and I won't be using it as a place to make money), but I do think that it'd be slightly less like talking into a brick wall than Tumblr is.
But let's talk about something I'm thinking of doing right here, right now. So, Chris and his MLP card game is clearly here to stay, at least for a little while longer. Chris has insisted that his expansions to the game are taking the place of new Sonichu comics for the foreseeable future. So I started to do a bit of research on TSSSF to see how well Chris's expansion decks would fit into the game (cringy premise aside, I think TSSSF is actually a quite unique and well-made card game). The more I compare Chris's decks to real decks, the more I think that Chris's decks might not be very playable.
So, to help my TAS research, I was thinking of hosting a KF game night where we try and play Chris's TSSSF game - for free! I'd handle stuff like dealing cards and setting up the game board.
I'm thinking of setting it up on a weekend evening. Afterward, I'll report on my findings about the game on the TAS blog. Who's down to play Chris's terrible card game?
Hey everyone, I'm thinking of setting up the CWC TSSSF tonight 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific (in it's own thread.) Anyone else game for some cringe? (the best part is it's absolutely free!)
You can find the ruleset here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VRDbVs9w_-UT0i5HUPpsXRM-kSTArhwBIfMrtDA6Jko/edit
(We will not be using Love Poisons and Changelings, as none of Chris's packs include them.)
Edit: Here's the master list of all the cards we would use: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19bbyATjvSqMxs6jhxAZYB7UwtVPOguundSaVq8EfRRQ/edit?usp=sharing
Edit: I'm not feeling super well, so I'm going to hold off until tomorrow. See the new thread for details.
Cancelled due to overwhelming negative reception. I feel like an idiot for even bringing it up.
I know it's been another month+ break, but this time I actually have been working hard on Sonichu related stuff, specifically the video. I'm really confident that I'm going to make the 17 March deadline - maybe even earlier! It's coming along really nicely and I'm honestly kinda proud of how much I've improved since as recently as September. I'll let you know when that goes up. Thanks for sticking with me everybody.
TAS: The Movie is done and ready for release on March 17, the 20th anniversary of the 'hog that started it all. I'm really proud of how it turned out and I hope this is the start of something wonderful. Hope to see you all Tuesday!
Also, since I can't be Glinda forever, I'm working on the all new and improved Bonnie and Stevie!
It's finally here! I've finally condensed TAS into a manageable one hour package you can take on the go. Are you in a place that won't let you look at hedgehog porn (which is to say, most places), but still want some of that TAS experience? Try TAS: The Movie! (I'll be honest the only reason I made it is because I commute an hour to work a couple of times a week and just wanted to listen to myself talk about Sonichu, which is my favorite sound, the whole time)
Once again I'd just like to say thank you all for being such wonderful people and humoring my obsession with our favorite yellow bastard. And don't worry about the conclusion there; I'm not going to stop in the middle of Sonichu 11. I'll at least finish it and 12. As for 12-9, it occurs to me I really can't stand the pictures we have for the back half of it, so it depends on whether or not we get pictures that don't cut off the edge closest to the spine if I'll do it at all. But I really can't stress how glad I am to have done TAS at all. It's just time I broaden my horizons (it's just not healthy to spend your whole life drenched in Sonichu, as fun as it might be to dive in). So while this video may be my Sonichu swansong, I will at least finish the projects I started. And I hope at least some of you will follow me wherever Salt Water Taffy leads me next.
Also, I'd like to specifically thank A Random for suggesting "Jackie Chan" for the Punchy section; I really, really, really didn't want to use "Kung Fu Fighting". "TNT" was also tempting for Simonla's death but I thought "Firework" would be more mean.
Also I can't believe I've never seen a CWC video that uses "Sister Christian" come on guys it's so obvious.
Hey there everyone. So, uh, this past few month and a half or so has been absolutely hellish. So, first off, the Sonichu video sapped a lot out of me. I felt so good making it and I was so proud of how it turned out and I was so happy that people generally liked it but after it was out I just didn't feel like doing anything ever again. Before I put the Sonichu video out I started on 3-4 additional video ideas but after I finished TAS: The Movie... I just didn't wanna work on them. And then it was coincidentally that exact time that the shut-ins started and the discretion I was able to have while working on TAS: The Movie evaporated in an instant. For the past month now I've been surrounded on all sides by my parents and my brother and my brother's shitty girlfriend I hate with the fury of a hundred suns with no true solitude and nowhere else to go to avoid them. Just being near any of them just saps my energy even more than I was already sapped and I can't talk to any of them about anything SWT so I just don't feel like working on TAS/GitM/any other SWT projects at all. The only things I've felt like doing the past month are eating, sleeping, and playing Animal Crossing. I feel like I'm turning into Chris. And the problem is my parents are teachers so even if quarantine ends before summer starts my parents are still going to spend all the time around the house so even if everything reopens again soon and I can finally treat myself to that fancy dinner and movie I was planning to celebrate the release of TAS the movie with, it's still going to be a long time before I can work on basically anything without having to explain myself to four people who will never understand. I hate to say that it looks like 2020 is going to be a bleaker year than the already pathetically weak 2019, but at least this year I have more excuses from external sources, last year I was just being lazy. But I do still at least have a new GitM chapter today.
I'm so sorry everybody.
So I've been doing a lot of thinking over the past six weeks or so. See, I'm going back to college full time in the fall, but I'd still like to keep something SWT alive. Though I may drag my feet I can still see the light at the end of the TAS tunnel, and I need to give serious attention to the TAS Youtube channel, what I've decided is the future of SWT content. I acknowledge that very very few people would care if SWT dropped off the face of the earth right now, especially once I wrapped up TAS, but it's more than zero which means sticking with SWT is preferable to starting over from scratch. I still don't really know what sort of content SWT will make going forward - more semi-serious plot explanations akin to the Sonichu video? Stuff that's more of a review than a plot summary (my test-out of this format is probably going to be the next thing down the pike)? Discussions on tropes and concepts across multiple works? I don't know yet, and I don't know if throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what works is a bad idea or if it's exactly what I should be doing. And, again, I'm not looking to become a superstar, I just want to have a platform, which I presume my new school will not give me. Thanks again for sticking with me through this period of transition.
Take all the time you need, we’ll be waiting; also: the pony on Chris’s pony shirt is Princess Cadence, just FYI.
The first slice of Episode 23 is ready. Sorry there's not much but I've been very busy this past month working on three videos for SWT, at least one of which is likely to come out by the end of the month. Despite my relative lack of activity recently, TAS has been for whatever reason exploding in popularity and I just wanted to say thanks again for all the support.
Also GitM 24:
However, it's occurring to me that as SWT moves further and further away from Sonichu, that I need to find some other avenue aside from this thread to keep people posted on it, the question is where. All my non-TAS posts on the TAS blog get zero attention so I don't want to sully it with more of them. I intend to abandon the TAS Tumblr as soon as I finish Sonichu 12 (or 12-9), and presumably this thread as well. The next obvious choice is using the YouTube community posts (once/if I get the requisite 1000 subs), which is what I'm currently leaning towards though I worry that it will look silly or pompous if I haven't amassed a following there yet. Sorry for that little tangent I just wanted to let everyone know that I do not intend to use this thread to self-promote after my content has moved beyond Christory.
Also I desperately need to revamp TAS's theme again (even though we're still in the middle of Sonichu 11) because the yellow and blue is starting to make my eyes hurt so expect that to change probably sometime this week.
Oh, and I put timestamps in the Sonichu video. Should have done that earlier sorry.
Hey everyone, one more thing:
As TAS is winding down, I wanted to do one last fairly large Q&A about Sonichu. I'm going to ask here, the SWT YouTube community page, and TAS itself if anyone has any last questions about Sonichu (ideally I'd like to keep it just about Sonichu but I will accept general Christorical questions), and then answer the non-inflammatory questions in another video (also, if any question can be solved by a quick glance at the CWCki or is something I've already explained in a TAS post, I will simply link back there and not answer it in the video). Depending on how fast I can get a solid number of questions, it could be done as soon as this weekend, though this will depend on how long it takes to get enough questions.
I expect it to be essentially a longer, video version of this:
It won't exactly be my Sonichu swansong, as I intend to finish TAS (up to the end of Sonichu 12) and GitM, but this will basically be the post-scriptum of my proverbial Sonichu book, with the final chapters soon to follow.
In short, if you have any more questions about Sonichu, speak now or forever hold your peace. So, any last nagging questions about the plot and characters and writing of Sonichu?
None that I can think of.
EDIT: Was Bananasaurus' Grass/Dragon typing a coincidence?
Double Edit: Did you know that Black Sonichu's origin is based on a page from a promotional comic depicting the original, western origins of Sonic?
