I posted about Pearl’s parents earlier in the thread - although they are fundies, I don’t think they are cows. They seemed to want to do the best for their daughter and after she died (they chose to remove life support and faced criticism from other fundies about that) they made a really honest video about the struggles they faced and how the fundie community is all about “choose life” but doesn’t provide support when death inevitably comes for these seriously ill children.

And then the hospital was like uumm you're grossly exaggerating her condition. But now the hospital seems to be under investigation so now I'm confused. Aetna is probably the provider that is funding the medicaid/medicare and is investigating if the parents are using these funds in a way that is not correct. It sounds like this is a confirmation they are investigating if forcing Tinslee to live is wasting funds that are usable elsewhere. Now millions of dollars (if i remember 24 million) have been used for this if they find the mother has been wasting funds or "frauding" welp the moms gonna be paying some shit back.

This Mother has me on a fence:
Part of me wants to despise her because this false hope of hers is just prolonging her baby's agony. When a child codes just because their diaper is changed, they are not living they are existing, in pain.
The other half of me pities the Mother and thinks that she is a very uneducated naive young lady who is being manipulated by the Fundies and Right To Life orgs. They don't give a rats ass about Tinsley or her mother, they are just using them to promote their cause.

I wrote about Dan Seitz in this thread a few months ago. He's a youtube vlogger with a 10 year old daughter named Hudsyn, who sustained catastrophic brain damage when she was born because his wife Casey suffered a placental abruption during labor. It's likely that the damage was exacerbated because he and his wife chose a home birth and Casey labored at home for around 24 hours before going to the hospital. This delayed detection of the abruption and caused Hudsyn to be deprived of oxygen for an extended period of time.
In this video, Dan films Hudsyn while she has a water or "swim therapy" session. Although he titled the video "Water Therapy" he does refer to it as swim therapy through out the video and has used that term in the past. While swim therapy normally what it's called, poor Hudsyn is so damaged that she cannot move a muscle on her own and so nothing resembling "swimming" is actually happens . The therapist just holds the Hudsyn in the water while moving her limbs and changing her positions.

While swim therapy can often be helpful for building muscle and allowing injured and brain damaged people to regain some mobility, because Hudsyn hardly moves, it's likely that the therapy does her little to no good at all. At best it might provide some minor, temporary physical relief if she is in pain from high muscle tone and that is only a maybe.

I tried to start the video at the beginning of the therapy session but it looks like it's just starting from the beginning of the video, so if you dont want to see Dan talking and driving for 7 minutes, just skip to 7:01 in the video.

At the end the father records himself and his son opening what I presume are gifts sent to them by Youtube subscribers while Hudsyn seizes in her wheelchair, supposedly "participating" in the activity. It's tragic to watch. Papa Seitz holds the stuff in front of her and speaks with that annoying cadence you use with infants or pets, but of course Hudsyn can't see or react to any of it except to seize harder when the sound volume goes up. The son looks very bored and just sits there with an "I'm so over this cr*p" look. He's only 8 but knows his sister is just a flesh puppet with no sentience and he's expected to act like she isn't.

I've always heard that Aetna is THE WORST when it comes to paying health insurance claims. However, in this case, I can understand why they're asking questions.

In their minds you they are thinking, those millions could have saved a child with a condition that is treatable.

I think the New Jersey comment is related to Jahi McMath. Jahi was braindead, but respiration was maintained with a vent. The family moved the body from California to New Jersey to take advantage of a religious freedom law regarding brain death. Jahi was braindead on a vent for years before her body decomposed to a point where the vent didn't work. Anyway, New Jersey changed the law after Jahi, and Tinslee isn't braindead. I'm mostly wondering what nugget of truth could have been stretched by lawyers to say she's learning to sit up on her own. If there's any nugget of truth, that is. There's probably a Saul Goodman quote that mildly applies here.

It's not in fact I usually just call her Hashtag (especially since I occasionally use her for educational events that have lots of kids, she's a rose hair tarantula). I didnt name her either, theres a pretty fun story behind the name I should post in the critter thread I made in general.

Slightly on topic, someone I know in regional herp circles has a granddaughter with lots of health issues. Apparently it's some rare condition drs aren't sure of the exact diagnosis. Lotta GI related issues esp. Apparently even in utero they knew she had serious issues. Most of her life has been in and out of the hospital and last I knew her future was still pretty uncertain.

Afaik none of the family are cows are anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if the mom worries like Shiloh Pippin's mom about whether she made the right choice to continue the pregnancy with all the suffering her daughter has had to endure. Unfortunately I don't think theres any easy answers to a situation like that, just horrible and sad all around

I did clinicals on an Indian reservation, and FAS was common enough that it was part of a standard newborn checklist. I've never seen anything like that anywhere else; if a baby is suspected of having it, it's charted separately.
