Someone is lying about Tinslee. Either this little girl had several death events a day and spent the first year of her life intubated and sedated, or she is responsive to others in a more age appropriate way, and can engage others and has an extended attention span of several minutes just because of a few weeks (???) of being weaned from the vent.. You cannot intubate and sedate a newborn for a year and expect her to extend her arms to be picked up, that she will want to engage with and is interested in TV, etc. That sounds really far-fetched. I don't believe Tinslee's mother, and I don't believe she's saying this because she is a delusional mother who wants to protect her child. I hope I am wrong.

I don't think even the most die hard racist wants a black baby to suffer. Black babies are more likely to be aborted than white babies, and frankly, that says some fucked up things about how abortion is marketed.

At the end the father records himself and his son opening what I presume are gifts sent to them by Youtube subscribers while Hudsyn seizes in her wheelchair, supposedly "participating" in the activity. It's tragic to watch. Papa Seitz holds the stuff in front of her and speaks with that annoying cadence you use with infants or pets, but of course Hudsyn can't see or react to any of it except to seize harder when the sound volume goes up. The son looks very bored and just sits there with an "I'm so over this cr*p" look. He's only 8 but knows his sister is just a flesh puppet with no sentience and he's expected to act like she isn't.

The abortion debate is likely not relevant to Tinslee’s case. Epstein’s anomaly requires a specialized test to diagnose in utero, and so far nothing that’s been released has shown that doctor’s would have suspected this prior to Tinslee’s birth (unless it’s somewhere in the court documents, I have not been through all of those).

Fair enough on sperging on abortion, though I didn't start it. I don't hate leftists (or anyone else) and 100% Tinslee living to birth and receiving heroic measures was wrong. The issue here is that black women are guided in a different direction than white women by people who label themselves anti-racists. Right wing fanatics do harm by insisting all life is worth living. Like most things, the humane and compassionate answer is between the two extremes

I've deleted my posts on abortion and black women's obstetrical care (or lack thereof) because it isn't topical, but I don't hate anyone, and I don't think radical positions in either direction are good.

Until the placenta forms, the baby doesn't have a link to mom's blood supply, which means her blood alcohol level is essentially irrelevant.

Whenever you hear a woman say her baby has FAS because she drank before she knew she was pregnant, there are only two options: She is lying, or she didn't find out about her pregnancy until she was most of the way through her first trimester. "Lying" is a lot more common.

Regarding the "why not abort" thing, a lot of women feel like a baby will be a reason to turn their lives around. Especially in impoverished communities, women may feel that having a baby is their only purpose. There are complex socioeconomic factors at play. If no one in your community values education, nobody has a real "career", and it's normal for men to have children with multiple women without committing to a relationship with any of them, having a baby who will love you unconditionally and give you a legacy of some sort starts to seem pretty good. Pregnancy is a reason to look forward to the future, thinking about all of the things your baby will do and all of the opportunity he or she will have that you might not have had yourself. It is true that having a child brings a ton of change, and it's easy to fall into the trap of believing that everything will be good now that you have a baby.

Also, in many poor communities, the only time a woman is treated like she matters or is important is when she's pregnant. No one cares about her job or her education, and once the kid is born, she's just another man's baby mama, but for nine months, she's gestating possibility.
