So with the rise of this new "Free!" anime comes the fedora nice guy anime crowd's lamentations of a "FEMINIST TAKEOVER" in the anime industry because apparently men have nothing but anime to please them when "3d girls" (I shit you not, this is the actual term they use...) fail in their eyes. I'm no SJW but I'm calling bullshit on what a lot of them say.

In all seriousness, the entitlement complex one has to have to freak out over something like shows not catering to them is kinda mindblowing. How do they not see how ridiculous it is? 'feminist take-over? Do they really think that? It's incredible how much some guys freak out when women are acknowledged in a way that isn't sexual. Also, if Free! is 'misandrist,' then every single moe anime to ever have been made is misogynist... and that would be a loooooong list of misogyny. I'm actually watching Free! It's fun, pretty lighthearted and just generally well made. There's really nothing sexist about it, and in terms of fanservice, I'd say it's a lot tamer than pretty much any 'moe'-themed anime.

I've had a few exchanges with him.
He's fucking cooky. He believes that homosexuals weren't persecuted in the Holocaust. I learnt that many many different groups of people were when I was 14, he also believes that only 1 or 2 percent of Spartan men were in homosexual relationships.
Oh and you know overweight unattractive males are totally persecuted on the same level as somebody who is LGBTQ or better yet even more so because they can just hide the fact they are gay whereas overweight unattractive males can't!

It's more about the fact that Free! barely has them, which to him is the biggest slight ever, because it focuses more on attractive guys while the most important female character is a bit of an audience surrogate... Kinda like how moe anime works, except reversed. Apparently reversing something that's otherwise 100% ok makes it sexist because it's not catering to a male audience. Basically he doesn't want any medium to cater to women at any point. I'm sure that if you asked him, he'd say that he'd happily remove movies and books directed towards women as well. (ok, who am I kidding with that last one? There's no way this guy reads)

I think he considers women being acknowledged as people misandry.
