The last time I made it, which was over a year ago, I had my electric kettle which only had one setting-- boil. I'm assuming that's probably too hot for most teas really, but overall it gave pretty decent results for mostly everything I made. I don't have a kettle now but I want to try rooibos again since I still have like a bazillion teabags that I need to use up.

I'm gonna force myself to like it one way or another

Electric kettles boil to 100, so that's too hot, yeah. Most teas are happiest in water that's around 85. I think if you tried unburnt tea it might really surprise you with how tasty it is.

Finally got to try Russian Caravan. I think the lapsang overpowered the other teas in that particular blend but it did have a bit of a nice fermented tea aftertaste.

-I have a shameful confession: I live off of cheap tea like Bigelow, Twinnings, Mighty Leaf and Lipton green unless the Asian market has blooming tea or loose leaf teas.
Or people I know discover the stuff they got at Teavana isn't to their liking.

I love Lady Grey and regular black tea. For some reason in my country it's nearly impossible to find decent black tea (that doesn't taste like suffering and tears),unless it's Twinnings. (:_(

I also love apple cinnamon tea,and this I can find from any cheap terrible for you brand.

I also love the Indian Chai, but ohhhh boy its also a very hard to find tea in here.

This sounds delicious. A nice summer suggestion for when I need a break from coffee.

Might sound stupid, but I had a friend try to make marijuana tea one time with milk and stuff in it. It was seriously so delicious to me that I sometimes make it with stems/trimmings just because I really do love the taste. From my experience I do not get high or anything but goddamn do I love the taste of it! I also really like oolongs, black teas, and sometimes I will collect some plants and make my own lavender tea that is very tasty with a little Buying a tea ball for loose leaf teas and to make my own teas was one of the best five dollars I have ever spent on myself.

Shameful confession: I love Lipton green every now and then when I'm just like at work. Its easy and I can just leave the box with the bags in my desk. I used to drink the crap out of Bigelow Sleepy Time just aaalllll day too.

-edit- I like this forum. Milk.

Either Red or Black Tea (either Earl Gray or English Breakfast) straight.

Sadly when I'm studying I end up using a microwave for heating the water :( . But I manage to not boil it too much to ruin the tea (basically I can kinda drink it right away or wait 1-2 minutes and it is still a bit hot). It could be worse, I guess.

The only point of the water is to absorb the flavor; it don't matter if you use a kettle, a samovar, or a microwave so long as it comes out good.

Speaking of which, any of you ritzy fucks use a samovar? I've wanted to for some herbal stuff since I saw how it worked.

'fraid not. But those things are definitely sexy. I've only ever used an electric jug, and more recently a small milk saucepan on a gas stove.

I've read mentions here and there about Indian milk tea, where the tea, water and milk are all brewed together in the same pot. Has anyone tried it?

I dunno why y'all are ashamed of your regular drinkings teas, but I use Twinnings and Red Rose for my everyday drink like your typical river goblin. I drink cups and cups of tea every day (black) and only bring out the 10-y.o. pu-erh (or whatever you really enjoy) when I want to actually savour it.

I drink fancy tea all the time. Life's too short to drink Lipton.

Man, i'm one of those Hippie types whom only drink herbal tea.

I do though have a whole collection of different herbal teas. And I always like to drink the bed time blend before well, going to bed.

Chamomile, vanilla, star anis and nettles.

When it's not bed time, I do like my blend with Mint leaves and liquirice root. And then of course I have my cough blend, which is good if you have a sore throat. Ginger, chamomile and a slice of lemon.

@Golly and I really enjoy Pukka Revitalize blend with a drop of milk in it. It's composed of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and green tea with a little spearmint, licoriche and elderflower thrown into the mix. When talking about traditional tea blends it's either Twinnings Earl Grey or Pukka Chai. If I'm broke I'll go straight for the Aldi Diplomat English Breakfast/Earl Grey, it's easily the best on a budget.

Chamonmile tea is my favorite, although I also like apple cinnamon tea. Also, if you have a canker sore inside your mouth, brewing like four Lipton teabags in one pot of tea and then gargling with it helps. Also put a teabag right on it if you can. The tannins are what does it.

I am a big fan of Russian-style tea myself. It's Chinese black tea smoked before preparation, which gives a smell and slight taste similar to bacon.

Kusmi Tea is the best brand around for Russian tea ; if you're new to it, I recommand starting with either Prince Vladimir or Anastasia recipe.

I enjoy a few cups of herbal tea every day, I'll drink almost any kind, so long as it's devoid of caffeine.
Chai, India spice, peppermint, liquorice, lavender, lemon-ginger, small flower willow-herb, elder flower, and lemon balm are a few I've been stuck on lately.
Last year I was able to try a more fancy tea from a specialty shop, it was made of nuts, apple bits, cinnamon bark and a hint of beetroot.

I've contemplated learning to make my own teas from loose leaf and other ingredients but I haven't been able to decide which I should make first.

I've been looking for a good Russian tea available to the West. Kusmi Tea always seems too expensive, guess I'll give it a try. Russian tea is usually good for 2-3 cups.

I like a nice hot cup of Earl Grey with a bit of sugar. Really good stuff to drink when you just wanna relax.
I agree with the Earl Grey sentiment. However, I find that most Earl Grey's are too weak in bergamot. But that's probably because I've been drinking Russian tea. Royal tea is seriously strong in the bergamot flavor.
