Does it feel to anyone else like Shortz is overcompensating for the "Goku is a bad father" jokes by shitting on Vegeta's parenting? I've only seen a few (the first two and like the fifth) but every one had at least one character call vegeta a terrible father. Even if Vegeta is an atrocious father he's still better than Goku. Maybe it's just me but I thought it was weird.

Well, it was better than the first one. But not by much. Also they really need to wait until they have a couple of these in the can before they start releasing them or else people are just going to forget and move on. Hell, I forgot about the first one until I saw the video here.
If DevilArtemis is animating, they’re probably stuck on his schedule since he does stuff on his channel. Either way, I think that they’re not doing it frequently because they don’t just want to do DBZ stuff forever. That or Kaiser is still holding everything up with editing.

Kaiser would rather fuck a real™ woman than let anybody edit anything he's in charge of.

On the subject of the whole woke shit, who I think almost certainly was influenced by TFS was Remix / WeeklyTubeShow who disowned his abridging of Rapeman so he could dicksuck Kaiser for roles in DBZA. And he only managed to get the pittance of Kami and Android 16.

I decided to checkout the TFS reddit and found their 2021 update where they basically complained how the pandemic fucked them and their really fucking cringe office parody. Basically Kaiser says they are gonna keep doing what they are doing and won't be doing DBZA again despite the fact TFS was in trouble long before Covid. What's even funnier is you have people comparing them to Doug Walker when he did Demo Reel and had to bring back Nostalgia Critc because it flopped so bad.

Also, I didn't know we had a thread here. I was actually about to post in the Youtubers teetering towards Cowdom thread that people should keep an eye on TFS. I kinda feel at some point we are gonna see something break.

What fucking bullshit it is when they said they couldn't do Buu Saga because of burnout and a lack of ideas. Used to watch their drinking streams and their gameplay channel long ago, occasionally Lani would mention that they were already brainstorming shit for Buu and were pumped to do it, and this was years ago before they necked the series.
Then consider how one fucking spaztick faggot was a fucking primadona who didn't think he'd need help editing with his convoluted bullshit method and how everything needs to be according primarily to him because of some superior weeaboo hardon he has, and now guess whose fault is it for the burnout? At least the sick fuck got some of that gay innuendo between children in the series in between milking the shit out of old jokes from a better time.
So fuck Kaizer for being a spaz faggot and Fuck Lani and Taka for not having the stones to stand against the clear single reason the series went to the dumpster.

Vegeta was an objectively shitty dad until the end of the Cell saga and far worse than Goku could ever be because at the end of the day even if Goku made some dumb moves, he still loved his kids. Vegeta got his act together after he watched Trunks die and became the better parent because he actually behaves like one now.

I've been comparing TFS to Doug for awhile now, I had Metokur's TGWTG series on as background noise this one time and while looking up people who had been apart of channel awesome found out about TFS' affiliation with them and since Metokur's Video on Doug was fresh in my mind, I came up with the comparisons.

Both got big with content that used the works of others: Doug with reviewing movies and TFS abridging DBZ which ended up defining them, but they both got to a point where they wanted to step away from what made them big to pursue dreams of being original content creators as opposed to just taking pre-existing works and reviewing/abridging them.

And I think pretty much everyone would agree that TFS' post DBZA content has been just as much of a failure as Demo Reel was for Doug, and it's just a matter of time to see if they will give in and return to DBZA like Doug returned to the Critic.

Heck there's already the similarity of TFS using DBZA as a comfort blanket via the Shortz just like how Doug used the Nostalgia Critic as a host for his game show in Demo Reel.

It's honestly a fascinating comparison to make and I think both Doug and TFS really encapsulate the transformation of YouTube content creation over time.

Personally I'm on of the belief that returning to DBZA to do the Buu Saga will likely be the tipping point for TFS fully entering lolcow status. The Buu Saga is wipe for potiential when it comes to an abridged series but I don't think modern TFS will do a good job.

As I've stated in this thread before I would expect a similar approach to LittleKuriboh's abridging of the Yu-Gi-Oh Season 4 where LK got way too reliant on making low effort jokes about the Season being dumb and not making sense. Sprinkle in stuff like however dumb way they would approach Spopovich vs Videl due to them not liking it because of "Muh strong female character got beat up", Dende being sassy towards Videl over Gohan, a Goten and Trunks yaoi subplot, Fusion being used as a way to further said gay subplot and likely another one involving Goku and Vegeta.

Then you mix that approach with problems like Kaiser's approach to editing and the fact that it will be a very obvious attempt at milking their old cash cow (I would fully expect them to blitz patreon and merchandising) and you're going to have a product that will be Modern Nostalgia Critic on steroids.

From that you'll probably see a polozariation of the fanbase and between any stuff hat emerges from that and any inevitable drama that occurs behind the scenes there will probably be no shortage of material to laugh at.

See, I don't think if they do the Buu Saga they'll go into cow status. I think it'll just kick the can down the road. I think what happens is, TFS eventually fragments. Someone is gonna see the writing on the wall that most people think their original content is fucking shit. And I don't think the entire group will become cows. I'm think it'll be Kaiser(Scott) that ends up with a thread here one day. He just seems like the type of creator that will hate the fact his fans only want one thing from him and not care about his other works. And today that usually means some big twitter meltdown.

I don't know, say what you will on Doug, he actually does shit on time. Spoony is the better example as he was one of the best early youtube content review-wise similar to TFS in abridged (though Spoony had bigger variety of videos), only to have progressively longer and longer times between videos with noticable dips in quality that shows he is growing to hate what he does. Though with tfs it seems more like they consider themselves better writers than Toriyama which is a whole new level of arrogance.

Sad to see TFS here, though not unexpected. I watched a lot of these guys back before they even became Team Four Star (mainly Yu-Yu Hakisho and Naruto Abridged) and followed them for most of their internet career. It's not much of an exaggeration to say these guys were revered almost like gods by a good portion of the Internet back in the late 2000's- early 2010's, and not without a good reason, they were funny, consistent in their uploads, and even down to Earth. Back in those days I would watch anything they put out almost religiously, but now...

I mean, they DBZ stuff they make is still decent, not as good as it was at their peak, but still watchable, but pretty much everything else is just...I guess the only way to describe it is that their stuff has an air of "Oh, we're Team Four Star, anything we put out will be great".

What I don't get is why all these big content creator's decide to kill the thing they've been known for making for years practically out of the blue and jump on something completely different without any backup plan encase the new thing fails.

Doug could have started doing some Demo Reels while also doing Nostalgia Critic, either slowing down NC uploads or hiring on some extra help, and once he saw it wasn't going well, can the project, look at what he did wrong, learn from it, then try something else. But instead he cancelled what he was most famous for, and cancelled it hard, tried something new under the pretense that it would at least be just as successful as NC, and ended up making an ass of himself when it flopped. From what I heard Demo Reels failure hit Doug hard, and for the longest time he blamed everyone for not liking it instead of himself for...not making a good show.

But this isn't a Nostalgia Critic thread, the point is it's seems to be the same case with Team Four Star. You should start experimenting with new stuff and she how people react to it before you can your #1 Cash Cow, even if you lost a lot of your passion for it, it still brings in an audience/ Patrons. You don't burn your old house down before moving into your new one and you don't kill off your #1 property before its time unless you know you have something else you can focus on that'll bring in cash. I get that passion and enthusiasm for a project is important in any artistic medium, but passion and enthusiasm alone doesn't put food on the table.

I can't say how much effort they put into understanding & practicing any of the new mediums they're exploring before they tried them, but I wouldn't be too surprised if they pretty muched jumped right into them without much preparation. I wounder if they've forgotten that each one of them had been doing abridging for at least a year or more before forming TFS, and even then it took another year or so of being TFS before they really found their groove. What was considered "quality content" on the Internet ten years ago would probably be considered mediocre or even trash today. Sad as it is to say, you can't just try something you're relatively unskilled in and post it on the Internet expecting to get a following or for people to like it.

Anyways, I've been rambling enough. I'm not sure what the future holds for TFS, if you asked me 5 or so years ago I'd say they'd have a massive chunk of the Internet under their thumb by now, but now...who knows?

I fully belive that if they are forced to abridge the Buu saga it will take an even bigger dunk in quality since its a saga they don't like and because they were "forced" to go back to DBZA despite being done with it

I'll admit I'm morbidly curious to see how they would handle this, I'm thinking they will show parts of the fight and Videl getting beat up (the "tamer" parts at least) and then show all this is what Spopovich was dreaming after Videl broke his neck, or maybe they just edit it so Videl wins effortlessly, but honestly I hope they never do the Buu saga and I never know the answer to this

Honestly, comparing TFS to Doug Walker is unfair to Walker.

The man got the message to go back to the Nostalgia Critic pretty quickly, and occasionally still puts out some solid stuff.

The baffling thing with Team Four Star is they were still pretty good even in the Cell Saga... even if it took them forever to upload new stuff. Hell, there are sparks of brilliance in the HFIL stuff...

They know what works, they just refuse to do it.

In my opinion it would be funny if they did a callback to their take on Tien fighting Nappa where they had Piccolo stop Gohan from helping Tien because Tien had to fight his own battles and then it cut to Tien getting the shit kicked out of him while begging for the others to help him.

I think repeating that joke with Gohan being stopped from helping Videl would be a fun callback and a good take on abridging that fight. But I'm sure Masako would have grievances with his waifu getting beat among other "objections" to that scene so that would probably be a forced girlpower moment.

Not only that, but they are STILL in the same pot of hot water they’re in with Toei. A sane person would have moved on to an OC donut steal series - regretable as that would have been, at least they’d wholly own it - but no. More DBZ, now with “everyone sits around and talks” CGI.

It’s as if Monty had used FF7 characters for RWBY instead of legally distinct knockoffs.

You know, I would have said earlier that I doubt they'd fudge things because they're autistically devoted to the series' canon, but considering in the HFIL videos they're trying to pretend Frieza could beat up Cell, I can see them doing something like that.

I think they still have enough cash and good will that they can keep it going a little longer. Plus they have these "new" series that will help keep hope alive that they're going to go eventually do the Buu saga some day.

It's been said that Demo Reel was starting to turn around and get better, and if Doug had kept it going he probably would have been fine. It's just that the site needed the Critic asap so he did it and refused to go back to Demo Reel even though it was pointed out it could still happen as a side project.

TFS on the other hand... I think they're insecure. If they go back to DBZA, then they have to accept that they really have nothing else to offer. Which I don't believe is true, if they could get an original anime off the ground with characters that are basically Nappa/Vegeta/Trunks/Bulma/Gohan/etc. just with different designs and maybe at a school, they could probably make something interesting. But it's looking like that won't happen.

Corona was such a weak fucking excuse for putting Unabridged on hiatus. Texas has been opened up enough for them to film and edit since last summer.
