Cool shit about sim cards/chip and pin credit cards (use similar or same chips as sim cards). They have an 8 bit cpu onboard, ram, storage and protected storage as well.

posted a link in another thread talking about this, but figured it should be shared here too. Interesting story about an old/odd VIA cpu that essentially had a secondary core within it that could be unlocked and backdoor your system.

Despite being targeted towards archlinux, it has articles/info that is applicable to most other linux distros, stuff like driver configuration, power management tweaking, etc.
My goto for tl:dr ing common and sometimes less common shit for linux.

level 1 doing a breakdown of a stupid manufacturing fuckup on a$2k asus motherboard. Faulty/fucky parts that cost fractions of a penny that prevent the motherboard from booting if the ambient temperature is less than 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Despite Bloomberg being shit on for for bringing up supply chain attacks with lots of other tech news saying its not possible, or impractical, that supply chain hacks can't/haven't been happening, wired posted an article of someone doing just that in their house for ~$200. scaled up and already equipped for manufacturing, it absolutely can, and most likely HAS been happening for years.

The whole backlash against bloomberg seemed really fucking weird to me, as if some government agency or someone with money tied up on it wanted to squash the idea before it gained traction.

If there's tech news of reasonable noteworthiness I don't mind new threads being created, I prefer it. These "interesting article" threads are basically containment for shit not worthy of it's own thread. Also these aren't news articles.

(this message was written in another thread before I merged it in here)

i was wondering where the post went, thanks for moving it to this thread instead of nuking the post, didn't see this thread earlier.

the bloomberg/wired links are articles but *edits* after original posting.

How to Help

The Kiwi Farms is constantly attacked by insane people and very expensive to run. It would not be here without community support.
