Fuck it, I watched it.
I’ve never seen the new show, but I was a fan of the old show.
I thought the jabs at DC movies and superhero movies as a whole was kinda funny, not as funny as adults losing their shit about this, but funny.
It’s a fun movie for children, let kids have their fun.

I think that was literally the point (or "joke")

The character literally says "this is what all movies are doing nowadays despite how dumb it is haha" !
Still doesn't make it funny or less manipulative, but that's something to keep in mind

Im well aware. The show very well understands how much shit it gets, so it hides under a persona of self awareness.

That's one of the funnier things about the show. How it takes jabs at the people who screech at it and how fucking silly it is. It's good background noise for a kid but how many times must we go through this? Sometimes you just need to pack it up and go.

Slightly :offtopic:, but it's not like I can talk about this anywhere else.

I'll go out on a limb and say the show isn't objectively bad for what it strives to do.

I wont act like Mr Enter and demand that the writers be murdered and brutalized; I genuinely respect their other work. Hell, one of them is working on an interesting kickstarter for a cartoon

The show isnt made by incompetant hacks like people ree. If it was, it wouldve been canned 100 episodes ago

I grew up with the first Teen Titans and I am not wholly a fan of this version, but since the show's tone is different (and young adults aren't the main audience,) I find it comparing apples to oranges. TTG seems to revel in its stupidity and constantly lampshades itself which at times can be endearing. I'll never know why a bunch of hyperactive manchildren would work themselves into possessed fits over this but... no wait, I do. Nevermind. All I know from the ratings that somebody is going to say 'damn' in this movie and it better be Batman.

I secretly hope this movie makes a buttload of money if only to rake in more internet salt.

I think something many people forget is that the original Teen Titans itself wasnt this pantheon of perfection many shell it out to be, in fact many people who talk about it really only talk about the Slade arc, which to be honest makes me laugh when I see those same people cry about TTG when they can barely remember half of the episodes that dont have Slade or are the movie.

Now on TTG itself, its whatever. It's a cute little distraction that deserves niether scorn nor praise. And im coming from the angle of actually lking the original, and I can say TTG is no where near the holocaust of childhood rape that some shitty cartoon reviewers and man babies make it out to be. The movie will probably do well and it'll probably have its fans (i.e. 9-12 year olds) and who knows it could very well be a fun little movie. (Everyone thought the LEGO movie was gonna be a dumpster fire and look how well that came out).

With that being said I hope this movie gets a sequel so I can have my daily salt intake for the next 7 years.

I'll defend the merits of the original show. It was a solid show and had some genuinely dark stuff in it that I think challenged the age group it was intended for.
That said, Teen Titans Go is honestly nothing to sperg about. It's there to shut up your brats for a little bit with the mindless zany toilet humor that all little kids crave. That's all it really is and all it ever will be. To waste this much time and energy on something so meaningless is pretty fucking autistic.

Just found out that my friend's 40 year old wife is one of the people throwing salt for this shit. Like she's obviously WAY too old to have been part of the Teen Titans original cartoon demo, but then again she's decorated their entire house in Comic Book and Star Wars bullshit from the 5 cons a year she goes to. She's been trying to spread some dumb facebook petition I hear and getting mad at people who have replied with "My kids like that show, I don't see the problem"

So of course I had to tell her, in person "The original was just a shitty mellow drama soap opera for edgy 12 year olds, you were almost 30 when it came out, why do you give a shit?"

And then she had some rant about the old school Wolfman/Perez Titans runs, which yeah, were good, but the thing is, I knew her in high school, she wasn't a comic nerd, she didn't start that shit until 2007 or 8. She was never a nerd until her 30s. I grew up reading comics and I don't give two shits what happens in them anymore or with their properties because I really shouldn't be their target audience, my kid and his cousins should be, ya know?

So I had to listen to some hilariously whiney ass shit from my buddy's terrible fat wife about the importance of a comic series from the 70s/80s in teaching kids about art. Or something, honestly I spaced her out and just gave my buddy a look of empathetic regret on his life choices.

They seriously have an oil painting of R2D2 in a Victorian suit over their fireplace mantel and a Deadpool picture signed by a penciler on their bedroom door. They're good folks normally, but this whole geek-chic thing has made them borderline insufferable

The next time I see someone act like they're hot shit for being all "nerdy", I'm going to tell them this is who they're trying to imitate.

Man, we've been waiting on it. My friends and I have a room set up in another friend's place for him to crash when it eventually does happen. Like we've donated furniture and bedding and shit as a group to this room. He doesn't know about it afiak but as bitchy as she is about everything we're all prepared for it. Even the dude's dad expects it in the next two or three years

I’m not asking you to dox your friend’s wife, but if you have the link to the petition she shared, I’d be interested in reading it.
As for their geek chic, I can see why that’s insufferable. I remember when being a nerd meant you spent all your free time studying and learning about fields that you didn’t have to. Now you can earn your nerd cred by complaining about children’s shows and gushing about Marvel movies. I’m sure your friend and his wife are good people like you say, but someone really needs to tell her (and others) point blank, that this whole campaign against children’s media because THEY don’t like it is immature and it’s time to grow up.

I dunno what the thing reads like, Im a social media blackhole outside of this place and two really boring and specialized hobby forums. My wife just said it was asinine and Im inclined to believe it. She's actually fine outside of nerd shit, tries way too hard sometimes but thats less a fault than people think.

But the issue with modern nerds is that they think a few shares on facebook and spending money on dumb plastic shit or mocie tickets makes them an authority or enviable, but it really isn't. I have a collection of some nerd shit myself, but I always point out I didn't buy any of it, it's all stuff that friends, coworkers and family have gifted me over the years. I don't have the collection for the stuff or the subject matter, but instead to remind me of the people who gave it to me that I love/like/respect. I get liking nerdy shit, I used to be a huge comic and Star Wars nerd as a kid. But it shouldn't define any part of you or your persona
