Thanksgiving food - Food you like, food you hate, what you're making

What are your Thanksgiving plans? I usually make pumpkin pie or bread, and my boyfriend makes homemade cranberry sauce (it's very easy, and impresses people used to the canned stuff). But this year we're spending it with our friends who are buying Chinese style duck instead of turkey, so I'm trying to find a side dish that goes with that. Any ideas? I suggested my boyfriend make lychee or orange sauce for the duck instead of cranberry.
My least favorite fish is probably green beans. Favorite is stuffing when people make it correctly.

I've had one too many badly prepared turkeys so over the years I've become more of a ham kind of person instead. I'll still eat turkey if there's one, but my expectations are already very low. Ham is hard to screw up.

My grandmother used to make really great mashed potatoes whose recipe was something like 1 sweet potato for every 3 regular ones. Plus like a whole stick of butter. They were super good and served roughly mashed with their skin which is exactly how I like them. I haven't had them in a very long time though, my grandmother passed away back when I was in college and I don't know if anyone in my family even has the recipe. Nobody who I generally see on the holidays has it that's for sure. :(

I don't like green bean casserole or sweet potato pie though. I could never get over the marshmallows on top.

Hold my beer please so i can enlighten you with how we arabs do it the right way.

Turkey stuffed with canned beans with tomato sauce, along with curry rice.

Then we've got Kunafeh (best cheesecake), luqaimat, and finally shawarma with kebabs.

That's communist garbage. Make traditional stuffing because everyone who goes will be devastated if that staple of the meal is missing.
No one involved really cares that much about turkey. I think it's fine, but roast duck is way better.

I may make stuffing if no one else does!

I jist finished making all the ricotta I need for the orange dark chocolate ricotta mousse I'm going to make. It tastes exactly like a chocolate orange, but so much richer.
That sounds incredible.

turducken
My mom refused to believe this was a real dish for years, she legit thought it was some made up dumb joke. Also she thought it was pronounced turdunken for some reason. My junior year of high school about a week before Thanksgiving I casually mentioned that one of my classmates was pissed that they were having turducken that year instead of just turkey. Mom said she couldn't believe I was gullible enough to fall for such obvious bullshit because turdunken isn't a real thing. I told her it was duck not dunk and that it's very much a real thing. Within 24 hours she read about turducken in one of her magazines and could neither apologize enough or stop wondering why someone would want to go overboard with poultry that way.

Oyster dressing and mirliton are my favorite thanksgiving foods. Also, spaghetti and meatballs, that's always good. Turkey's pretty good, but I like those honey baked hams even better.

what you niggos gonna make/have for desert?

The past two Thanksgivings, I've actually started bringing something that I made myself instead of just picking up an ice box pie and a case of beer lol. I make this ultra rich dessert with bananas, french vanilla pudding, condensed milk, and vanilla wafers. It's delicious, everybody enjoys it but it's so rich you can typically only eat a small amount.

I still bring the case of beer.

I don't like green bean casserole or sweet potato pie though. I could never get over the marshmallows on top.

Yeah I don't like things with marshmallows on top, though I've never had sweet potato pie that had marshmallows on it. I was thinking of that dessert called "Heavenly Hash".

I'll be making cranberry sauce tomorrow

The one thing I can't stand about Thanksgivings is Cranberries.

“ It has been an unchallengeable American doctrine that cranberry sauce, a pink goo with overtones of sugared tomatoes, is a delectable necessity of the Thanksgiving board and that turkey is inedible without it. ”

-Alistair Cooke

++ for the oyster stuffing though.

My family likes to rebel and have chicken enchiladas, rice, and beans for our Thanksgiving despite being the whitest people you will ever meet. Green enchiladas are good shit, man. Sometimes I'll make a pie for dessert, either pumpkin or apple. I'm gonna make dulce de leche brownies this year because I found a recipe you make in a cast-iron pan and I'm all about cast iron right now.
