That hip hop thread... -

Been on a Three 6/Hypnotize Minds kick lately. Miss those days so bad. 03-07 when the label was dropping fire every five or six months. Just those raw southern lyrics and flows over those Paul and Juicy beats. Nothing better. Yeah, it was trash, but it was glorious at the same time. In an era when gangsta records were a dime a dozen, nobody was touching these guys.

God, spending Friday nights in high school just driving my Expedition around town aimlessly with a couple buddies and my girl with this shit bumping. I'll never forget those times. I'll also never forget Three 6 and Frayser winning the Oscar. Incredible. And sad that it was all downhill from that point.

I'm not much of a hip-hop aficionado myself but I have very fond memories from listening to 2Pac Shakur back in the day. Any song you mashup with 2Pac becomes better.

Shakewell (and Pouya who he collabs with) is pretty good.

Also new Kendrick Lamar feature.

The Venom movie tie in from Run the Jewels is actually pretty good.

New Travis Scott, Drake's feature was pretty weak but Travis' parts were great

Shame that Rafa never blew.

Daveed Diggs is pretty great. I love the clipping. albums.

Been listening to some West Coast bangers and 90's New York stuff lately:

Listening to this in an IMAX theater while waiting for post-credit scenes was banger as fuck. Way better than that wack Eminem track.

This just came up on my Spotify. I like the vibe, it's a refreshing change from the other hip-hop I listen to.

OK so this track surprised the fuck out of me, if you let go of the inherent and very-deserved cringe reaction that Black-Eyed Peas have earned, you'll find a 1st half that feels very Pharcyde-like to me, too bad they had to ruin it with the techno-like 2nd half

I will apologize for the disasterous 2nd half with this Joell Ortiz/Apollo Brown banger:

OPIE TRICE, REAL NAME NO GIMMICKS

That entire album is a classic even 15 years later. He had a 50 Cent-esque debut, too bad he didn't catch on with people.

It surprises me, he was really good along with Em & 50.

Menacide also reminds me of 50 Cent, he sticks to horrorcore so he never really blew up though.

You can't tell me this doesn't sound like it could be an Em & 50 track from the same time period.

This entire album is amazing for those who have never listened to it, top 5 hiphop albums for sure. Fugees are honestly my biggest example of wasted potential, if only Lauryn Hill hadn't gone crazy and Wyclef Jean hadn't gone crazy along with embezzling his own Haiti charity

EDIT: "I used to work at Burger King, a king taking orders"

"So many fronts in his mouth I thought he was the Golden Child" lmao I forgot how much I loved this album
