The Cloverfield Paradox (aka God Particle) -

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Waiting on a response from upstream.

10 Cloverfield Lane was wonderful.
It was okay, but it was hampered by the fact that they roughly shoved all these hamfisted Cloverfield references into an existing movie. I don't really like how this "cinematic universe" is just a bunch of vague things for nerds to obsess over. It made the movie feel more muddled than it needed to be. Also there was zero reason to have her literally battle an alien ship at the end when the climax of the movie was her escaping. Just felt way too goofy at that point.

This whole Cloverfield universe is a marketing gimmick which hasn't exactly been executed well.

Yeah, and if they’d done the film as it was originally planned out without plugging it into Cloverfield it probably would have been perfect. Big dumb ending aside though the majority of the finished product is great. I don’t even remember any Cloverfield references so I’m assuming they came from that viral marketing campaign about the soda or whatever, yeah?

I was excited about this last night when I misunderstood and thought it was a Netflix series, which would at least be promising. Wasn’t until later I found out they took yet another unrelated movie and jammed it into Cloverfield, then made it look like it was directly related to the first movie, just like they did with The Cellar.

It’s super-manipulative and I don’t understand why they can’t just make additional Cloverfield movies from scratch if they give any kind of a fuck I think I just answered my own question.

It was garbage like the notes she found while exploring his shelter, or the stuff at the very start of the film. Moments designed for nerds to either get the movie on netflix or bluray to pause in order to find out information displayed to the audience for a handful of seconds. Its just obnoxiously distracting and adds nothing to the universe beyond HEY LOL ITS A WHOLE LOT OF CONVOLUTED SCI FI SHIT, YOU NERDS LIKE MYSTERIES RIGHT?

So the movie was kinda dumb, rushed and had too much of that "main character has family drama baggage" going on, but fuck it, I enjoyed it. That said, I wonder why JJ (and co) won't just make another Cloverfield movie proper. It's not like there isn't interest, I mean, the only reason I watched this (and 10 Cloverfield Lane) is because it had the name attached and everything I've read online shows I'm far from being the only one. Is it truly easier to take some unrelated concept and just attach the Cloverfield name to it?

Wait, I thought this was gonna be some sort of a lead up to the one they were putting out in a couple months... So was this that movie all along? If so then that was a massive let down.

If I wanted a Cloverfield prequel, I would have just read up on the ARG that explained most of this shit anyway.
