AI Can Write Disinformation Now—and Dupe Human Readers

Georgetown researchers used text generator GPT-3 to write misleading tweets about climate change and foreign affairs. People found the posts persuasive.

Mike Gruszczynski, a professor at Indiana University who studies online communications, says he would be unsurprised to see AI take a bigger role in disinformation campaigns. He points out that bots have played a key role in spreading false narratives in recent years, and AI can be used to generate fake social media profile photographs. With bots, deepfakes, and other technology, “I really think the sky's the limit unfortunately,” he says.

It's an interesting theory. What if only 10 percent of KF is actual people, the rest are just bots responding? The idea does sound ridiculous but think about it, you will probably never meet face to face with anyone on this site. You have no evidence to prove we are all bots but no evidence to prove we are not.

Truth be told, there are just a shit ton of people online and it's easier than ever before. You do see people gathering and parroting the same shit like on Twitter which may make it seem like there are bots running amok. Go to any political trending topic on twitter and you'll see morons oddly use the same specific language. Like "the shooter was wearing a garish yellow shirt" "Reports say he was wearing a garish yellow shirt" and so on. It's creepy tbh.
