You also have to remember that not towing the prog line can cost careers, gigs, shit like that. And for a lot of people, their politics can change if you get stepped on. All of a sudden you're stabbed in the back after all the support you've given over a silly joke? It causes you to go 'fuck you'. At least he didn't go full soy boy and beg for an apology. And neither did Dave Chapelle for that matter. You have to give Gervais credit. He not only leaned into it, but mocked the fuck out of people who took offense. You can't say that many people have done that.
