List 'em here, guys. This should be fun.

  • In the TV series Fear Itself, the episode "The Circle" features a group of people trapped in a wooden cabin by a monster that is weak to light. Naturally, the power goes out, and their flashlights stop working. What does the lead protagonist tell the others to do? Light the furniture on fire. Thankfully, they don't actually do this.
  • The entirety of the courtroom scene from Attack on Titan. Tl;dr-the goal of this is to get Eren into Survey Corp custody by having Levi brutally assault Eren in a packed courtroom to show that he can handle him, and how awful it is to be cruel to a person as young as him. The problems arise when you remember that a) Eren still doesn't have control of his titan abilities yet, and could literally turn into a titan at any moment, b) they're in a building, c) even if Eren's titan form somehow fits in there, every time he titan-shifts there's a big explosion, d) even if Eren's titan form fits in the building, and the explosion doesn't take it and everyone out, Levi does not have his gear in this scene. No one does. So unless he plans to Shadow of Colossus his way up there, they're completely fucked, e) people routinely see each other getting maimed, and killed in this series so Levi beating up one teenager shouldn't effect them that much, and f) no one on the jury seems to take into consideration that Eren, who the teenager who has obvious anger issues, and was just screaming like a maniac, might hold a grudge against the guy who just beat the shit out of him. We the audience know that he wouldn't, but the other characters in-series should've at least thought about that.
  • Attack on Titan again. Zeke tries to convince Eren that his entire race should go extinct, just because their dad was a bad person. Yes, that is entirely his reasoning, and no, it obviously does not work. Works even less than you'd think it would considering when Zeke tried to show him how bad their dad was with PATHs system (don't ask) it just showed Grisha being a wonderful dad to Eren.
  • The majority of Dutch's plans in Red Dead Redemption 2. Basically, they boil down to robbing the same uber-powerful, rich businessman while on the run from Pinkertons, and other law enforcements while supposedly trying to maintain a low-profile.
  • In the hilariously shitty creepypasta Jeff the Killer, the bullies Randy, Troy, and Keith decide to get revenge on Jeff for kicking their asses by shooting up a children's birthday party. Keep in mind, these guys are thirteen at the most, and not wearing any masks. Also, none of the adults try to stop them.

Pretty much half the plans in Terry Goodkinds books rely on stupidity
An Army of 10k troops resolves to take on an army on 100k with Hammer and anvil tactics. The protagonist rightfully points out that this is stupid and they will all die.
Darken Rahl: Either tell me which box i open so the world doesn't end, or i pick at random myself and we get a 50% chance the world ends.

I'll argue it's kinda the point of Dutch letting his personnel bias interfere with the gang targets, with him going over the rails after the plantation arc (that was a pretty solid plan overall). It's like a cult slowly transforming once the leaders get crazy.

I'd put the Fire Emblem Fates Conqest route on the list. You discover your king that started a war is actually a demon in disguise, so the plan is to let keep working for the demon king, let him win the war and only then expose him as a demon. Causing massive amounts of deaths for no real reason other than justifying a second story route.

I'll also put the 40k book Red Tide: After an internal civil war that started because a rogue inquisitor, the Blood Angels face mass depletion in fighting strength to the point of not being able to carry out combat tasks. A sane plan would be to notify the high lords of Terra and using the clout of being a first chapter to get a few centuries to rebuild. But instead, they summon every Blood Angels descendent chapter to Baal (probably the last thing you want to do if you want to keep the Inquisition from discovering the internal civil war) and ask them to donate soldiers. Going through great pains to summon a chapter that hates the Blood Angels, known for stirring shit and doesn't have enough warriors to donate. What the fuck was the author smoking?

In ProtoType 2, original protagonist Alex Mercer decides the best way to spread his virus is to infect others with strands similar to his own and create more monstrosities like himself. Solid plan, except he infected someone that absolutely hates him and wants him completely dead at any price, and then left him to his own devices long enough to become stronger than himself. Complete shocker when Mercer is massacred by his creation.

The fucking killer clown is back but instead of being little kids fighting it they are grown ass adults. Adults who can buy/make/steal guns and explosives. They KNOW a monster lives there and will reappear. So, did they go all Sarah Connor in T2 crazy doomsday prepper? No. The only weapon they have is an asthma inhaler.

Stephen King's works generally make no goddamn sense but IT makes Maximum Overdrive look like a masterpiece.

Every plot point that happened in Lost. But specifically the season finale where they try to nuke the island and end up getting blasted to the future. When I saw it for the first time, my jaw dropped to the floor and shattered into a million pieces at how fucking stupid it was.

Any plan concocted by Cobra Commander is fucking exceptional. so exceptional that it gives the G.I. Joes time to destroy their army and give lessons to kids.

Starscream and his shit tier coups against Megatron also fail before any progress is made except the one time in the early 2000's animated series but he still somehow fucked up making the autobots and decepticons work together to kick his ass.

Any anime where an obnoxious antagonist wants to unleash the protags full strength and wondering why they're getting their ass kicked when protag unleashes full potential or when they're about to beat the hero and just give a fucking monologue about their plan until the hero gets up and villain says "WAIT HOW CAN THIS BE!"

Shaun's plan for his father in Fallout 4 makes no sense. So your plan for the synth child Shaun was to see if people would recognize it as a real child and presumably whether it would fool Shaun's real father. That's all well and good but then why not just bring Shaun's father to the institute immediately once you let him out instead of letting him roam The Commonwealth and get tainted by radiation thus diminishing his value to the institute. Letting him roam also ensures that he will see and hear anti-institute opinions while traveling and or make emotional connections to synths. The Institute is supposed to be smart...

Avengers: Endgame

The plan to get the Stones makes zero sense. Here's why:
1. They have just enough Pimm particles for a 2-way trip for each of them. Then, much later, they just steal a whole bunch of them from the past. Why not do that at the start of the movie?
You don't even need to steal them, just send Lang back to a time between Ant-Man 1 & 2, when Pimm knows and trusts Lang, have him explain what happens and get Pimm to give the particles away willingly.
2. Disregard 1 for a moment.
They need to have multiple Stones in the same place in order to make less trips.
During the Titan fight in Infinity War, there were 5 Stones there - 4 on the Gauntlet and Strange had the 5th.
Send Hulk there to punch Starlord in the face, take the Gauntlet from Thanos (because he's strong enough) and use the Power Stone to knock him out in 1 hit.
Or use the Mind Stone to put Thanos in a permanent coma.
Or just keep punching him until his face is minced meat.
Now you have 5 Stones and the 6th one is being extracted from Vision in Wakanda so now, you have all of them.

That's just something I came up with right now but Stark and Banner - 2 smartest dudes on the planet, couldn't figure it out.
they had to make everyone stupid in order for the movie to happen.
That movie was so fucking bad.

Hello, I am going to disrespect the soldiers under my command - including war heroes that saved literally billions of lives with the same attitude they are now being lambasted for - hide even the intention of having a plan for the situation we are in, keep my own command staff in the dark, and repeatedly act in a shifty and aloof manner. I will then be shocked and surprised when this backfires, as the single person that knows what's going on is in a coma and unable to vouch for my actions.

Also Dutch's plans were meant to be dumb. It wasn't bad writing, it was the desperation of a man who knew his time was coming.

Forgive me, I wasn't very clear.

I understand that it's done on purpose. My problem is that the dumb plans happen too soon after one another. Them occurring in such a quick succession makes Dutch come off like he's too dumb to live, and makes everyone else in the gang look stupid for following him. If they had just dialed it back a bit, and spaced the plans out more I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Unless they changed something from the book, those wouldn't have worked. IT is harmed via childlike faith; make believe if you will. I found IT overrated, but the fight at the end is consistent.

Even so it is still dumb. When I was a kid I knew what guns were. I knew you used them to shoot bad guys. This is rural fucking Maine in the 50's. Don't tell me they didn't understand this. Have them bless some 22lr or something.

More important to that, they had done ZERO preparation whatsoever. Shit was going to go down with Pennywise later and they knew it and they did nothing. None of them. They didn't even keep in touch. It's just the dumbest thing.

Stephen King has one trick. One thing he does that convinces people he is a good writer. He can set a tone. His works are just long-winded creepypastas that try to give people the chills by setting unsettling scenes. But, if you bother to think about why anyone or anything is there and their actions it never makes a single solitary bit of sense whatsoever.

I don't think so. The first plan that backfires is stealing from the oil tycoon. Afterwards they try hiding in plain sight and being manipulative. After that they cooperate with the boss of a city to give them good targets for favours. The plans are diverse and usually fail because Dutch thinks he is a genius and continually over-bets in some sunk cost complex.
