Salem, Ore. – The increased acreage in fire size reported today is not due to fire spread over the past 24 hours but because an aerial assessment was completed. This allowed for a more accurate measure and improved mapping of the fire. Firefighters will resume work Tuesday to secure the perimeter of the Beachie Creek Fire. Crews and heavy equipment continue to connect and strengthen existing control line together on the west and northwest portions of the fire. Good progress was made in this area over the last couple days. Firefighters continue to work with landowners on the southeastern perimeter of the fire to build and secure control lines in that area. Firefighters will also continue mopping up and systematically assessing damage to structures inside the fire. Due to these efforts, firefighters have achieved 15% containment.
The Beachie Creek Fire and the Riverside Fire remain about one mile apart. Officials from nearby fires are coordinating strategies to minimize fire growth and stabilize incidents. Extremely dry vegetation and a lack of natural holding features in the Table Rock Wilderness and surrounding areas mean it is still possible the fires could burn together. Based on current weather, it is anticipated that a future merger would not result in dynamic fire behavior as seen last week.
Fire officials are working closely with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT and the Oregon State Police to coordinate recovery efforts along the Santiam Canyon. Currently 16,776 structures are at Level 3 evacuations and another 18,528 homes in level 2 evacuations. It is imperative to protect first responders and communities in the path of the fire that everyone heeds fire and law enforcement road closures and evacuations. Anyone who enters the fire perimeter jeopardizes firefighting and rescue operations, puts lives at risk, and potentially increases the time it will take to return residents to their communities.

Firefighters on the ground are working to eliminate any remaining heat near the perimeter before these areas can be defined as ‘contained.’
“We’re putting safety first. Over the past several days, firefighters have worked tirelessly to put in lines to stop any new fire growth towards the communities of Estacada, Colton, and Molalla,” said Incident Commander Alan Sinclair.
Firefighters will continue to strengthen and improve firelines down to the Clackamas River on the fire area located one half mile southeast of the community of Estacada, OR in the Faraday Lake area. Crews and engines continue to actively build and connect fireline in the Mckenzie Road, greater Elwood and Dodge areas where numerous pockets of fire are disconnected from the main fire perimeter. To the southeast of Estacada, crews are working to improve handline constructed over the previous days near the North Fork Reservoir and Highway 224.
To the west, dozers and hand crews will continue to stitch together holding lines in rugged terrain in the Green Mountain and Goat Mountain areas approximately five miles SE of the community of Colton, OR. Firefighters are working closely with the Oregon Department of Forestry to strengthen firelines near commercial timber stands while preventing any further growth towards the community of Molalla. The fire is continuing to smolder and creep in remote and backcountry areas such as the Roaring Fork Wilderness.

I live in British Columbia; it's fire season here as well but we're not burning to the fucking ground like the states below us. I saw the sun for the first time in days today because of the hundreds of fires in Washington State. Contrast that with a handful of contained fires in a much larger area up here and I'd say there's definitely something suspicious about the amount of fires down there. We also have the same kind of idiots scaling back our forestry management and logging that the rest of the coast suffers from.
What we don't have is a bunch of unhinged anarchists laying waste to our cities. Might be a coincidence - might not be.

Almost happened to me once when the apartment behind mine a few years ago caught fire. I woke up to my apartment flooded with smoke and thankfully managed to open my door and get outside about a minute before the fire department was about to bash it open. Smoke alarm didn't even go off for some reason. Shit is indeed scary when there is even a chance of it happening, can't imagine how bad it would be when it's actively happening.

Rural vollys in the PNW are wildland experts and they do it for free with cast-off equipment. It's not unusual for them to have custom-built brush trucks made out in some farmer's barn. Growing up in a small town in the Cascade rain shadow our district had one they called "the dozer" it was a '59 Ford 1-ton they lifted and converted to 4wd then crammed a 390 Interceptor engine into. It was a fucking beast and on calls the guys would race to the station to get to it first rather than being stuck driving the other newer brush truck, "Attack" the F-700, or the shitty old military surplus tender.
The town also had an old Civil Defense siren. If it went off it meant "Every able-bodied man get your ass to the station. Shit is going down and we need everybody."
