wow 2020 just keeps on giving

I heard that Phoenix's multiple days of ruddy-tinted sun and grey skies were from all the smoke trapped in the same high pressure system that's been keeping rain out of the area for months.

Blotting out the sun with wildfire smoke achieves two things. One, it lowers people’s Vitamin D levels. Two, it irritates their airway. These things make people more susceptible to respiratory illness.

This is an attack on American soil.

Makes people anxious, high-strung and tired too. It's bad news, regardless of source. Portland residents have been getting gassed in their homes for weeks, too, plus covid going around.

This year is just anti-lung in every way.

Don't forget also:
  • Trapping people indoors -> Less social interaction -> More COVID stir-craziness and sedentary behaviors
  • Trapped inside and poor air quality also means less cardiovascular exercise
Not to mention Washington is vote-by-mail only. How are all these rural people going to vote this year if they don't have a home to which their ballots can be sent?

Clear-cuts aren't management
You're an idiot. Trying to make more old growth forest is how we got here.
So Canada is 95% federal/public land and the US West coast is around 30-50%. Makes sense.

The best thing about the red map of public lands is if you compare it to a map of the fires, they're mostly on logged, weyerhauser land, not BLM or the fed.

Also here's a local story.
Want to try that again? Public land makes up the majority of this complex and all 3 of these fires started on public land. 90% of the active fires in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho either are mostly public land or started on public land.

Dark green is public forest, gray is Res.
94% of BC is owned is public land owned by the province. Much of it is heavily managed.

The further north, the less and smaller fires. the further south, the worse and larger. you can check out South America if you want to get frightened.

oh yeah-
Washington is vote-by-mail only. How are all these rural people going to vote this year if they don't have a home to which their ballots can be sent?

Rural areas (like mine) allow you to pick up mail at the post office, either your own or the next nearest, if there's emergencies. We had a major flood in the region in 2018, it's how everyone in the town voted. That part will be all right.

@1Tonka_Truck yes, federally managed land here is fucked, clear-cuts aren't management, both of these are true. State-managed land gets sold for the lumber too. We don't have much old growth left, most of what's burning is stuff that was cut between the 70s and now.

They didn't do very well at replanting properly back then. But it was a lot wetter, so it didn't cause as much fire risk. Ten years ago, that down power line wouldn't have caused Beachie Creek to go up this dramatically. It's just change, being here, over a long time, you see it up close.

edit to be clear:

BLM land in Oregon is boxed in, by weyerhauser land. Elk hunting used to be much better here, more access. Now you've got to get across WH land just to find a patch of BLM to hunt on. It's supremely fucked.

They planted trees in the 70s expecting to comeback in the 90s and do thinning. Then Bill Clinton happened. The Beachie Creek fire was only a 450 acre fire 3 weeks after it was first reported. A stationary high pressure system east of the cascades changed all that with 10% relative humidity and high winds. Fire growth was 100,000 acres in 24 hours. 3 days of that kind of weather and 100 hour fuels might as well be matchbooks.

That is not climate change and it's barely a forest management issue. That's just shit luck.

Nice try glowy we know you can control the weather with HAARP. Unprecedented hurricane force winds don't just happen.

Dude hid inside the dam in Detroit - and stayed up 30 hours keeping it running - while the fires swallowed everything outside of it.

Also, Covid in the evacuee shelters. (archive)
Cool, a dam is basically a giant concrete bunker. You need specialized weapons to crack one, some pissy little fire won't do shit. Based humanity and based concrete.

Because it's not ours. Think about it. It's like how the childhood of people born in the late 80s-early 90s ended (literally) around the same time as 9/11. That's why there's that "we're in a new timeline" feeling.

You do have a point. That might be why 2007 is seen as the year where great change felt like it was in the air and "the internet went to shit" as the old meme goes.

That was the year a lot of the Late Millennials and Early Zoomers who were born in the 90's had begun to either enter adulthood or enter their angsty teen years. Still, the 2012 Apocalypse thing is spooky as hell, even if it's mostly a coincidence.

The best part is this is what the majority of western society asked for. Even if most of them are too stupid to realize that.

Obvious quisling is obvious

While WA does most of its voting by mail, they have polling stations setup on election day.

As for theories of this being coordinated, I don't see how harming 2 of the most liberal states and Oregon (also an electoral shoe-in) helps, with 2 of those states already doing mail in ballots, hurts the orange man.

As for trying to stir, Corona fears, The Northwest states go though vitamin-D deficienties naturally around this time of year already, though the smoke does not help. I was having headaches over the past couple of days, and slept in greatly today. The headaches went away with the improvement of the air quality.

To put it simply, it's a mix of liberal states allowing these faggots to riot - and by proxy the ego transfers to setting shit on fire and killing livestock. Which then are massive coincidences because the west coast is just a tinderbox with dried hobo shit next to it, in a convenient pile of rocks that makes it so only that area is set on fire.

Also I'm pretty sure it takes more than a month-ish of no sun for vitamin-D deficiencies to happen.
If anything coronachan would be the main reason for NEET-D.

Quit sharing Nazi conspiracy theories and take your meds schizo. We need to stop Trump from appointing my rapist to the supreme court by ANY means necessary.

So what the chances of another large and wide spread fire happening after this one burns out?
It's an election year and it's easy to blame forest fires* on right-wing climate denialists, so close to 100%.

* it's well-known that forest fires didn't happen until the industrial revolution happened in the year 2,000,000,000BC.

What I meant was with so much burnes then that means less fuel to burn again
