Worth noting that apparently a bunch of rain and storms moved through Oregon the other day and doused the fires which was a big help to firefighters in containing the fires. It also did wonders for air quality since particulates went from over 500 across most of the West Coast to under 10.

Skies are clear now. Rain gods saved us.

In 10 years it could all burn again. That's what happened to Paradise, CA. The Humboldt Fire burned right up to the city limits and 10 years later the Camp Fire ripped through the same area and burned 95% of the town.

Just as an FYI since this will inevitably happen again come summer, 20 or so inch square box fans and 20x20 air filters in a "pull through" setup are a serviceable stopgap to pull some of the crap out of the air in your home when it's bad outside. A HEPA filter based air purifier is better but not everyone has one or more of those just lying around.

I have an indoor AC unit on wheels and I just disconnected the air intake tube I have connected to the window and let the air in my house cycle through it continuously. I genuinely have no idea if it did anything but it sure made me feel less worried.

Unfortunately, this is pretty normal in coniferous forest fires. These stump and root fires are notorious for starting spot fires after the wind starts blowing. I've had to put out the same fire 3 times before we cut a dozer line around it and (back)burned the rest.

Its also part of the "mop up" phase of a wildfire to clean these up, as the burned trees become a safety hazard. Nothing like a 16" tree suddenly falling over because no roots meant a butterfly fart could push it over.

In my area, the winds have been pushing the smoke the opposite direction so it's clearing up. I got lucky, the worst I got was 2 weeks of smoke making me cranky and I have developed a newfound hatred for whiny anti-maskers.

Now here is an interesting statement released by the Statesman Journal. Saying "the tendency to associate all large fires with climate change is also harmful". It shows the media isn't directly agreeing with leftist that climate change is the sole cause of the fires.
