The eternal rotation of "this isn't made for you" rhetoric - aka "The Fandom Menace", "The Angry White Gator Manbabies of Fandom", etc.

When a pop cultural franchise produces a work that includes changes that the fans don't like, especially changes that are of a clear political bent, the first thing those that support the changes say is that "this wasn't made for you, white male dudebro etc. etc..."

And then when the work fails in some capacity, those same people who the work "wasn't made for" get the blame for it failing, as if they were morally obligated to see it for whatever reason in spite of it ostensibly not being made for them.

I ask, why is that?

Because the entire point of the excersise is to have a nonbinary demikin cirklejerk of color while turning the property in question into a propaganda organ. It's just not the same if there's icky cis white males watching. Oh and they're the bad guy anyway so of course they get blamed

Eh, it's just a reskin of a much older problem:

1. Company makes a radical decision to change one of their well-liked products in an attempt to attract new customers
2. Existing customers criticize the revision, and promptly get accused of being stubborn old farts who don't like change
3. Existing customers stop buying this product
4. New customers either don't buy product as expected, or have the attention span of a gnat and move onto some other new, shiny thing in short order
5. Company remains baffled at the failure of their amazing plan

It's a cultural marxist power grab. The idea is to upset the status quo, one way to do that is by robbing people of their fandom. The idea is to take that culture, that 'safe space' away from the icky cishuwhites (or whatever group is the fashionable target of the day). They like to do it to hobbies and music scenes, too.

And if you can't successfully subvert something, what do you do? Why, as a devoted reader of Alinsky - You burn it down.

Because woke stuff typically doesn't sell, so they need the original audience to continue funding it. These groups just have no concept of fault. It has to do with wanting a "clearly guilty" party to kick around and exploit. It's a power struggle that can't sustain itself without some group to exploit.

Because mainstream audiences don't like blatant pandering and SJWs don't have money. And even if they did have money they don't purchase pandering shit either because they don't actually care about the media in question. They can't blame themselves for woke shit flopping so they have to blame everyone else.

It is trying to exploit the "ally" mentality. They want you to support things financially even if it isnt made to appeal to you. Like a soyboy going to the latest grrl power movie even if his dick is going to remain flaccid throughout. Same thing with donating to troons or marching for Black Lives Matter. They dont care if you enjoy yourself or not, they do however want your money. If you dont give them it they will try to shame you into feeling bad so you'll come back for forgiveness the next time.

Add in the mentality that if you arent actively supporting something, that must mean you are against it. No middle ground allowed.

I swear, it's like everybody looked at New Coke and said "the problem was that they didn't disparage their customers enough."

Reminds me of the mentality I've seen some SJWs state that the only way for white people to pay for their privilege is to actively make their lives worse so "people of color" can benefit, ie settle for a worse job.

That's really where progressivism went wrong was it simply asks too fucking much of people now, it's easy to not call every black person you see the N word, it's not easy to try to make your life worse to atone for your white guilt.

As said by many others here, woke stuff is difficult to be marketed because both the normie public and the fandoms prefer consistency rather than needless rebranding.

Brand loyalty (which requires consistency from the brand itself) pays well for a reason.

Still, companies get bored and lazy and are often composed by out of touch people who see a decrease or stagnation in sales (usually caused by decrease in product quality aka laziness, lack of proper marketing or just regular exhaustion of a given product/tendency) and immediately assume that they ought to reach a new public which often results in hilariously inept attempts at rebranding and marketing.

Not every product will be an absolute success in sales every single time. It's better to take a regular paycheck from an established public than to burn through brand loyalty while trying to attract a new public.

tbh if someone cares that much about corporate stuff to the point of being in any fandom then the fault is on them for being that much of a paypig easily manipulated.

Enjoy stuff on your own, don't go too crazy buying merch, vote with your wallet etc.

Sometimes it seems like no one else ever votes with their wallet. No matter how viciously the producers and supporters of content put on our viewing screens by The Mouse choose to attack average customers, these movies still somehow are making enough money on tickets to justify their existence. It's really confusing.
