The Eternals - marvel is trying it again this time less humor and hit music and more unnecessary love triangles

Something is really wrong with your movie/actors/costumes when the fucking Nostalgia critic dressed in a shitty link costume and all those goons at his back look more intimidating than Immortal god-like beings, all the actor's look awkward like they don't really want to be there, the chick with the headdress (is that Salma? I have shitty eyesight) looks like she is saying "please no more just let me go home"

I love how the main defenses of the trailer in comment sections seem to be:
"Two minutes isn't long enough to make characters interesting or show personalities! You can't judge them yet!"
"You guys just want everything to have a Thanos-level threat!"
"If they showed anything else, it would spoil the whole movie!"

It's like, damn. I know it's YouTube, but do people seriously not understand what a trailer is for or what universe this movie is set in? Some are even using the plot leak from Reddit as a defense. Unfortunately, y'know, that doesn't change the fact that the trailer isn't doing its damn job.

It's not that complicated.
Each time Marvel SWEARS that "this movie is a totally different thing!" and each time it's the same flick.
So of course they are gonna promise "this one is different" and of course it won't be.

How people can be excited about their releases is beyond me.

(And almost each time it makes a tone of money anyway, so the incentives to shake up the formula are low)

I'm still thinking we've got a 50/50 shot of it being pushed back again for more edits/reshoots. On one hand, this looks awful and no one outside of The Mouse's cult and broke wokies like what's been shown. On the other hand, the next Spider-Man movie is only a few weeks after this and they're autistically obsessed with keeping that schedule. If that synopsis was real, this movie isn't setting up shit so they can move it around to wherever.

The character in the comics was originally a Japanese action film star but I guess Bollywood doesn't do action films and they really, desperately needed the character to be played by Kumail Nanjiani so they decided this was just as good.

Apparently Kingo was a fucking samurai and thus starred in a lot of samurai movies and now I'm pissed because we could've gotten a cool-ass samurai but instead we get... this.
So the character went from being Japanese to Indian? I guess the rational is that South Asia is still part of Asia, and so the characters ethnic background "shouldn't matter" if "they're all Asian". I'm surprised that were was never a big backlash for several of the character ethnicity changes, instead everyone seems to be taking about how "amazing" the "diversity is" with the cast and the director. But I guess complaining is a one-way street.

Since Japan was never as crazy for the MCU as say, China, India or South Korea were, I'm guessing the Bollywood scene and some of the casting decisions were made to pander to the Indians now.

It wouldn't matter even if Japan loved US capeshit
There's 120 millions Japs, to roughly 3 BILLIONS Chinks and Indians. Granted they don't have the same wallet yet but the market is so much bigger. Disney want to be where the people are, they told us so already.

Plus chineses and koreans are still raw about that whole expansionist phase Japan went through and we have a new Sino-Japanese conflict pointing it's nose with the disputed islands.
I expect more Japanese characters to be race-bent in the future.

Don't be sad for Japs. They had a good grip on the "token diversity hire" character for a while, and as far as entertainment properties with superpowers they have the better version with Anime. They don't need america's capeshit.

Changing a character's ethnicity only matters if white people are involved. That's why with Ghost in the Shell everyone was mad that Scarlett Johansson was cast as Motoko Kusanagi(who is a human brain in a cyborg body and can theoretically look like anyone) but said nothing about them making Ishikawa black.

The character is meant to be a Bollywood star yet is played by a Pakistani actor. Don’t know how well that going to go.

True. My Hero Academia did an original Superman like character better than DC or Marvel have done in years.

It might do well because

1) Its MCU and MCU is a guaranteed brand.
2) Its likely that Movie Theaters be fully opened back up by the time it comes out and people will flock to almost anything after not being at a theater for most of 2020 and 2021.

BUT, I can see this being a film that isn't well received by fans or critics, and begins kind of a downward trend for the MCU.
