I agree the books are better, but as far as TV adaptations go, I think this is one of the better ones. They've done a good job doing more changes than cuts, and for the most part the changes have at least been interesting, in an alternate universe kind of way. I thought the show made Ashford far more interesting than the one-note villain he was in the books. Drummer's expanded role has been fun too. It's not Game of Thrones-tier bad fanfiction or changes that go completely against the themes of the books. They're so much better than the show. Lots of characters are removed and/or have whole plot lines given to other characters. Drummer's the biggest glutton in this regard, her arc in the second half of season 3 (which was ALL of book 3, so they cut a ton out) belonged to Bull, Fred Johnson's security guard in the latest episodes. Her current season arc belongs to Michio Pao in the 5th book. In a completely faithful adaptation, Drummer wouldn't be a major character of any kind in the show, since they're stopping at book 6 and she doesn't have her own story until book 7.Examples?

I agree with you there. I do think the show could've been better if they had longer seasons, even if only by a handful of episodes. So many things are cut or shortened that helped build the world and establish side characters. Season 4 especially disappointed me with how much they had cut out and changed. The Belters I think aren't being given as much of the worldbuilding they got in the books, which is a large part of the motivations of Inaros.I agree the books are better, but as far as TV adaptations go, I think this is one of the better ones. The pacing was really inconsistent while they were on SyFy. 1.5 seasons for book 1 (with a common complaint from people unfamiliar with the book being that it took to long to get going), 1 season for book 2, and then crunching book 3 into 5 episodes. Considering they're much more consistent now at Amazon, I assume that was due to SyFy holding a Damocles-ian dagger over their collective heads.I agree with you there. They are trying to condense 10+ hours of books (as narrated) into almost as many hours of show, so they do have to cut some of the slower parts. Maybe I just like the "space opera" feeling I had with the books and wish the show was able to follow that up.
Has Amazon said anything about how far they're going with the show? I'm excited to see their interpretation of the later books.
God dammit, that stuff is amazing. Not having those books really disappoints me since it would've been a lot of action and ends the series on a pleasant and very optimistic note. Ending the series after the Inaros stuff just misses out on so much. Is it just budget or ratings or just blowback from corona? As far as future content, they've confirmed season 6 will be the last and they aren't doing any post-time skip content. The Laconia portal shows up in the title credit sequence now and some fans are coping that it means they're farming out a separate adaptation of the Laconian trilogy but I'm pretty sure it's just an easter egg.
I'm guessing a combination of budget/ratings, Alex's actor getting #MeToo'd and booted off the next season, and the logistical headache of a 30 year time skip.God dammit, that stuff is amazing. I hadn't heard that, so that's pretty big.Alex's actor getting #MeToo'd and booted off the next season
I haven't read the books but I've heard Robert Meyer Burnett say that ending after the 6th season is fine, since there's a big time jump in the books, so if there was a 7th season then we wouldn't see the same cast.Ending the series after the Inaros stuff just misses out on so much.
Day of the Rock.FOR THE GLORY OF ZEON
Yeah it's as good a place to end as any, but I'm sure I'm not the only book fan who was looking forward to seeing theI haven't read the books but I've heard Robert Meyer Burnett say that ending after the 6th season is fine, since there's a big time jump in the books, so if there was a 7th season then we wouldn't see the same cast.
It's going to get even worse. Naomi was fine in the books, for the most part, but this season's arc was where I started skipping her chapters. Expect lots of crying and Dominique Tipper's "I'm ACTING" face. You know, I think this show could be greatly improved, especially by throwing this Naomi character out an airlock. Can we please just stick to Chainsmoker mommy, Drummer and the redneck-indian guy?
