Ugh. I'll be the first idiot to answer somewhat honestly.
I'd say I was on the lower end of middle class growing up. Not playing with the newest toys and video games, but not deprived of anything of real importance (at least monetarily).
I'm currently probably upper middle class, got a house, a car for me and my wife, in a decent neighborhood, in Taxachussetts. The city I live in has a very big black community, so I'm less... racially sheltered... than some might be in similar situations. I don't know why I even mention that, I guess I just feel it doesn't quite match the expectations of the background.

Currently? I've got a 30-y.o. trailer sitting on a rural lot south of the Florida-Georgia line. Beats having to worry about being carjacked again in my front yard. Growing up, some of my parents' tax returns put them earning the median income for an African-American family.

Would have grown up middle class but thanks to my dead grandmother's chain smoking everything my grandad made went to paying off medical debt. Looking back it wasn't so bad especially seeing how the dollar has devalued since the 90s. As a plus it forced me to learn how to do shit on my own. No money to take the truck to a mechanic so I learned to fix that shit, can't afford to call a plumber so got decent at DIY plumbing, and things like that.
Now I'm mister responsible in the family and doing alright. Working on moving up in the company I'm at so I can be an overpaid exec that does "something".
