Their first crowdfunding campaign was on Kickstarter back in April 2014.

Amount Raised: $44,490

They posted an official trailer in November 2014:

Then they started a second crowdfunding campaign. This time on IndieGogo.

Amount Raised: $23,955

Posted December 2014:

TOTAL BUDGET: $68,445

According to their Tumblr, photography wrapped in March 2015:
We wrapped the last of filming at the end of March!
We still have a lot of work ahead of us in post-production, from editing and color correction, to sound design and ADR recording, to of course the composition of the score and the VFX. We don't have an exact release date yet, but we promise, as soon as we get a bit closer, you guys will know!

Since then, updates have been few and far between. Donors are getting restless. A few have speculated that this might be a scam.

The project still has no release date as of the making of this thread.

can't wait for WB to drop the hammer on this

just imagen the spergin the fans will commit
That’s probably what the scammers want.
  1. Get money from fans
  2. Buy cool shit with the money for your own needs
  3. Claim that WB/Disney/Whoever owns the rights sued you
  4. No refunds, since you “spent the money on making the movie”
  5. Start e-begging for more money, because of “legal fees”

There are a couple of HUGE fucking warning signs in the project:
  • Way too expensive rental equipment. The original Kickstarter had 25% of the budget allocated for equipment alone, which should have been enough to BUY all the stuff you need, but they decided to go for the "professional film-making equipment" route. That's always a huge mistake.
  • Reliance on visual effects: CGI costs a ton to create and takes a huge amount of processing power. Rendering the stuff takes months, and the end results are usually shitty. Besides, the VFX guy always has a falling out with the rest of the team. ALWAYS.
  • Way too many people. Getting stuff done with a shitload of people scattered around the US? Never even try, unless you can shoot the scenes completely separately.
Then there's the film score, which probably went the typical way:
"Hey can you do us music for the film? Take a look at the rough cut"
"Ok here's the music"
"Can you change it a bit? We decided to re-edit the film and some of the songs don't fit"
"Ok, here's the revised version of the score."
"Can you change it a bit? We decided to re-edit the film and some of the songs don't fit"
"Fuck you"
Finally we get to the "micromanaging cunts" portion of the film, basically the director-producer team most likely wants to tweak and tweak and tweak the goddamn project until the editor throws in the towel. There's always some flaw, could you tweak this and that part a bit, the brightness is too low and sound levels are 2% too high.

I'm pretty certain they're in the final tweakage & VFX rendering part, with most of the principal crew having lost all interest in the project and/or Harry Potter. It can drag on for years, if there's no deadline for release.

edit: also physical rewards and a DVD release in current year? Idiots.

To your point about that--they had a falling out with the original editors, as detailed in a lengthy explanation posted on Facebook back in January: https://www.facebook.com/maraudersfanfilm/posts/1039506799506040:0

I got $50 on Trump rolling out the right-wing death squads before this atom bomb ever sees the light of day, with a $15 side-bet on one of the remaining editorial staff trying to kill themselves before the end of the Trump presidency. Now who wants to take odds on who, what method, and if they succeed?

The icing on the cake would be Rowling retweeting this with enthusiasm, assuming she isn’t teaming up with her lawyers right now.

What's the copyright situation with this? It doesn't seem to be parody. Do they have the rights?
