I found a sleeping Luna Moth on my front doorstep and put it on my back porch for safety. I can venture a guess but I have a funny feeling I'm wrong.
It's literally that some people apparently dumbly ignored the warning not to use the same username as they'd used elsewhere, except it was because the warning wasn't there for some reason. So they didn't really dumbly ignore it, they just were dumb, because you should know not to do that even without a warning. So their previous usernames were visible if they later changed them.
And because of genius design by the XenForo team, the toggle switch to block this blocks other things as well, such as the strikethrough of banned users, and there's no way to decouple this without rewriting the code, and then rewriting it again any time XF updates.
It was not a specific choice to disable the strikethroughs.
Lately I've been trying to spread awareness about some of the major problems with YouTube, such as how they refuse to help people when their channels are flagged for vague reasons, the fact that you can get copyright strikes on deleted videos, and don't even get be started on the way they responded to the COPPA situation. I keep telling people to raise a big enough stink about these things that YouTube has no choice to respond but no one ever responds to me even though I know that there are tons of people who agree with me about these things.
