The sad thing about all of this if a big chunk of population just stood up and said "nah, not feeling like doing this" then they would be stopped.

Yes, but you need a kind of unity in people to stand together.
We've known for centuries that the way to rule foreign nations is to make sure the country is divided; especially racially. Most african nation borders were made by colonialists. And their goal was to rule effectively. So they didn't draw borders in a way that created united groups, but they made sure that in each territory you have different groups competing.
Heck louis XIV did the same; making sure his nobles fought each other rather than him.
Now that kind of mixed nation strategy is applied domestically.

The great reset is literally just another way of referring to the continual push by a combined effort of government and business elites to remove "Legacy Systems."
They knew as far back as the year 2000 that the next superpowers on the up and coming were likely going to be rapidly moving from 'extremely underdeveloped' to 'developed' and even 'over developed' in a much faster manner than the western world did (due to the western world I might add). The next big thing being that the west and the newly rising powers are gunning for getting down are things like AI (which is just another phrase for surveillance systems, former surveillance systems, and soon to be surveillance systems). These AI are data driven, they need large amounts of high quality data building up all the time, over time, in order to work and be worked on.
The west has a problem with that. The amount of data you need would need these programmers to have access to your habits near enough 24/7, and with a wide range of people being recorded, in a wide range of different situations, and from across a wide range of locations. This is where the push for everything being rented comes in. China ( to use an example) has a significantly higher prevalence of apps that are Uber, or mimic Uber in function; their large corporate bodies are all linked to the CCP (and by extension, the military of the CCP). That makes constant monitoring of many peoples movement habits, over many years, in many situations extremely easy when compared to the propensity of people in the west to actually want to own their mode of transport. The same can be extended to renting homes, renting office space, renting TV, renting video games, ordering food deliveries, ordering shopping online.
Personal ownership is a legacy system that needs to be done away with in the minds of the elites. Otherwise the global hegemony created by the dominance of the US militarily, scientifically and economically is going to go away. If the entire next generation of 'smart' systems needed to compete with the world run only on Chinese OS's, and the entire field of it is only being advanced in data rich nations where constant state surveillance and s lack of legacy systems has provided an almost infinite ream of material to work from; it sort of puts the western elites up shit creek.

This topic and it's wider implications and origins are something I can't really look away from, yet it really makes me depressed.
The normalfags will just eat up all the privacy, freedom and soul crushing tech because TV says so and it's all so convenient.
As much as I used to love computers and machines, I really grew to dislike the whole thing because all they do is to centralize power and take away the agency of the individual. We were promised cool robo buddies to go to on adventures with, not being blobs stuck in their houses existing only to consume media and die.
I think the future we should have was robbed from us. I wish there was a way to fix the error and return to the good timeline.
