After watching the video, I actually think much of that is true. When I was in school, I was surrounded by many talented and creative people. The more experienced ones were often pretty organized. They kept physical schedules and routines so that, I assume, on some level they could allow themselves to automate through the necessary drudgeries of a normal day. Then, they were able to perform arias brilliantly. That may be because they were able to get more out of their practice time by having everything else taken care of on a certain level. Did they follow a particular self help chart? Maybe, maybe not- the head professor of my major did love herself some TED after all, but in retrospect, there was a trend.

Hm, I dunno. A lot of this video seems like a rehashing of somewhat related pop psych concepts that I'm a little skeptical of. I'm not sure if I buy the premise that making too many small decisions depletes "mental energy" for larger decisions. Also, I think that stopping and questioning is a largely negative thing for me; maybe it's a depressive viewpoint but I usually reach the conclusion that nothing really matters that much and most things are too much effort. Therefore I often don't reach goals that I probably could if I didn't overthink them.
On the other hand I am really into the idea of decluttering and automating etc.. I've thought for awhile about just eating the same meals every day and I'm currently trying to get rid of everything unnecessary in my apartment. The more bags of junk that leave, the better I feel. I also find a lot of appeal in "French wardrobes," where there are a small amount of clothes but they all mix and match. So the idea of "decluttering" other aspects of my life like schedule or hobbies makes sense I guess

Why is this worth making a thread about?
I guess it's just a video that made the OP think and he wanted to share and have us discuss this. This seems to be a speech about how doing mundane things like taking notes and planning for life can achieve awesome things. However I'm not entirely sure of some of the concepts in this video, particularly the "mental energy pool" because I haven't heard of a concept of "mental energy" being proven, or if it is then it's simply increased metabolism in the brain or some sort of threshold. Otherwise, the speaker seems to make some useful points. I find that if I don't actually plan anything out, it never gets done and/or I forget about it - this can also happen with a lack of motivation.
