The Leather Salt - Amy Schumer continues to be unfunny, blames alt-right for everything

So I was gonna bump the other Amy Schumer thread but it's closed. This is my first thread so if I fuck this all up, my bad.

Anyway, Amy Schumer's new Netflix special "The Leather Special" has been panned by pretty much everyone for being a bucket of shit. It has a 1.5 star rating on Netflix. However, if you think this is a natural rating for a joke-stealing unfunny comedienne that rehashes the same jokes over and over, you'd be wrong.

This is the alt-right's fault.

Putting aside the argument over whether Schumer’s special is good or bad, it’s this bit of info from The Wrap’s report that should make anyone’s suspicion kick in before assuming these are “fans” or true “critics” of Schumer who are slamming her:
The comedian’s hour-long special, titled Amy Schumer: The Leather Special,has received more than 900 ratings since it premiered a week ago. That’s more than double the number of reviews for Trevor Noah’s special Afraid of the Dark, which premiered on Feb. 21.
A quick Reddit search — particularly in the alt-right r/The_Donald subreddit — tells a very different story than what the above outlets are reporting, with posts like this one and this one encouraging people to give Schumer’s 2016 book a bad review on Amazon, plus all of these calls to give her special a one-star review:

• To those that still have Netflix; Netflix just added a new Amy Schumer special, please go and 1 star that piece of shit.
• Amy Schumer has a new special on Netflix and it has 1.5 stars… Can we get it down to 1?
• Amy “1 Star” Schumer has a new Netflix special. You know what to do
• ‘Amy Schumer: The Leather Special’ is on Netflix. You know what to do, folks.

There was even a concerted push over at r/opieandanthony for people to leave negative replies to Jim Norton’s tweet about the special, and unsurprisingly, tons of Redditors obliged.

But as we all know, some random blogger might blame the alt-right for this, but Amy Schumer would never.........huh? Oh, well, shit.

I've read the Jezebel article (yeah, that site is still around) about it earlier. A lot of the comments border on sanity (i.e. admitting that it wasn't that great of a special) yet still think not rating it 4 or 5 stars is misogyny. Because Trump???

Anyway, I love everything about this. They went for reddit this time, I guess because they realized picking a fight with the internet's greatest villain called 4chan will get you into even more shit.

She's supposed to be a comedian. If a comedian has to deal with a heckler (in this case: online ones) they're supposed to come up with a funny retort or something...or at least call them a nigger like that dude from Seinfeld did. Not a whiny 'I'm so brave' routine.

I don't know of any mainstream comedian who behaves like this and has a sustainable, healthy comedy career. Unless you count Lena Dunham as a comedian, though I think HBO might be getting some kind of tax credit for keeping her on the air.

Methinks Miss Piggy better hope her Fat Barbie movie becomes inexplicably popular with viewers. (Not just with critics, who will all give it three thumbs up for Stunning Bravery.) What kind of crowds is she going to draw in the future if she can't be self-critical of her own material?

I like a fair number of her sketches and some of her standup, and I think this is not a good move. If you think you're honestly so great, why the defensive posture? Posting about how you are beautiful in every single way and words can't bring you down is about the fastest way to show the world that you're deeply insecure and faking any self-confidence you portray. Social media seems to have completely eliminated the idea of just walking away and letting people say what they want.

I never liked any of her comedy (they tiny bit I've seen) but she was actually kinda fun and likable in around 2009 when she used to come on the Opie and Anthony radio show and hang out with them and other comedians. She would tell this story about how she let a cab driver play with her while her friend was sleeping in the back seat, and she'd talk about how much of a whore she was. She was really self deprecating and acted like she could "hang" with the funny people in the room and take a joke.

What I remember from her appearances on their radio show and when I hear about her now, its like night and day. She can't take a joke anymore at all. That little bit of fame went to her head in a hurry.

It's a win-win situation. The progressives running Netflix can feel good about themselves, and the mountains of shitty streaming content will instantly look better.

Everyone will go watch her movie and show, be it for solidarity or mockery, if she becomes another victim of the evil internet meme men. The actual quality of her content won't matter: the "good guys" will like and defend it because the "bad guys" dislike and insult it, and vice versa.

Too bad she's not even pointing her guns at the right targets. Reddit's for the most part all bark, no bite. A few offensive tweets won't make you a superstar, Amy, you gotta get knee deep in the mud if you want those victim brownies.
