Reviews starting to drop, NISA charged my credit card, it's actually happening bros. 1142 days since Cold Steel 2 launched. It's finally happening.

Well, after 140ish in-game hours and three weeks after launch (I miss being a NEET), the credits are rolling.

The game is fucking unreal. The storytelling in this series is just on a completely different level. I felt that way before Sen 3, and now it's not even close. Nothing can touch these games. The lore, the attention to detail, the world building, the foreshadowing, the slow build, the payoff, the swerves. It's just unbelievable. They cashed checks in this game that they wrote fifteen years ago and wrote new ones that could conceivably be cashed fifteen years from now.

The last 20 hours are incredible. The cliffhanger is masterful. Everything is just glorious.

With that said, it pains me that there are people out there who might have played this game without even any cursory knowledge of what happened in the previous seven games. Like, it makes my heart hurt. I know how stupid that sounds, but it's true. There was a lot of accusations of gatekeeping going around before launch, but we weren't doing it out of malice. We want people to enjoy these games as much as we do, and starting eight games in isn't the way to do it. I understand why NISA had to advertise it as a "good place to start", because these games are about as niche as they get, and scaring off any potential customer by telling them to hold off until they run through seven 80+ hour games is not in their best interest, but Jesus it's frustrating.

To be fair, you don't have to get it completely right the first time. You can start 8 games in, enjoy that game. Find out that you like it, so you find other games in the series. Then you can replay the first game you played and find layers over layers of stuff that you didn't pick up on last time. That's still a great experience.

Just finished CS3.

Last boss was a total chump. Didn't get a turn off on me. Though, only the chapter 3 and 4 end bosses gave me any real trouble. Don't know about Sky and Crossbell, but these games are so easy to break with the right setups.

Now begins the wait for CS4.

NISA may be doing THE FORBIDDEN TRAILS GAMES before we get CS4.

They're offering Lloyd's costume as free DLC for Juna. It's a possible hint for what's to come.

Anyways does anyone else start on Nightmare for their first playthrough?

Only for Cold Steel - game is too easy.

I see Cold Steel on Switch going over as well as a lead balloon. Bitches didn't even come out for Dragon Quest or The Mana Series.

But the retards bought Pokemon enmass making a broken game one of the highest selling switch titles or something.

They're having to make the basic physical version of Divinity Original Sin 2 for the switch a special limited release because Bandai Namco saw those underperforming switch Dark Souls numbers.

You can't really break any of the games in Sora because they are relatively simple. Unless you count Earth Wall as breaking the game. Only real way to break Crossbell is with evasion stacking armor.

Breaking CS2 is absurd. You can get Fie up to 100% evasion like 3/4 into the game with armor and quartz. Add the quartz that deals critical damage for every counter attack and it's crazy. That's probably my favorite way to break the game. You can also deck Laura out with gear that allows her to wipe everyone with one S-Craft outside of the final boss in the epilogue.

Didn't really try to break CS3 during my first walkthrough, although it seemed pretty easy to do.

I made Kurt my evasion tank in this one. The MQ that makes your counters deal 600% damage or whatever plus the sub quartz that draws arggo is just stupid.

Rean was my breaker/critical beast. That MQ that makes you deal more damage to broken enemies combined with the already overpowered Sledgehammer/Wind Blade combo was just steam rolling everything.

I didn't use any gamebreaking builds in CS2. I was too lazy to figure out how to get the most of out the MQ, so some bosses gave me a lot of trouble. The first fight of the final boss sequence in particular.

We'll see. I'm inclined to agree with you, but I do trust NISA more with these kind of business decisions than I do most other publishers. I can't imagine that this is going to be a cheap game to port, but who knows.

NISA may be doing THE FORBIDDEN TRAILS GAMES before we get CS4.

God, I hope so.

I think at some point ports of Sky and Crossbell are going to happen.

Falcom's most recent fiscal report showed big growth in the West, and one of their outlooks for 2020 is (paraphrased) "The worldwide expansion throughout Japan, Asia, North America and Europe of the Kiseki and Ys series. Additionally, tackling the sales promotion of older titles."

You can read more of it here.

Also, those Sammy and Lammy plushies are gonna be adorable.

Yeah, most of the titles have spoiler free guides on steam or gamefaqs. I used this one for FC.

On the subject of CS4, I don't think I'm going to be able to wait for it considering what I already know about the ending to CS3. I know there's a translated playthrough on YouTube so I'll probably just watch that to get my fix in the short term.

It's crazy seeing these titles all get so popular in what seems like a short time. I remember buying Sky FC on steam before SC released as this sort of hidden gem but now I feel like I hear about the series so much now that I couldn't call it hidden anymore. It's well deserved too. Each game has been fantastic.

So Cyber Save Editor has updated stuff for YS Memories of Celceta for PS4, they're for the English release. No idea who's bringing it over stateside but Trails of Azure/Zero no Kiseki/whatever the fuck they're calling these games, may be up next. My Guess is XSeed and NISA may be bidding to do shit from Falcom. But if shit gets updated it's usually a sign that stuff will be announced soon.

YS 9 and Cold Steel 4 have had their english versions in the system for months so it's entirely unrelated to them.

And for the later part of Trails of Cold Steel 3 there is a ton of crossover from Ao, I have the physical encyclopedia books to the series and I needed to look up shit in order to fully understand what was going on.

This is the end, as well as the beginning—.

The whole of the Empire was weakened in the disaster known as the “Great Twilight.” Thanks to the efforts of the heroes, the land of Zemuria pulled through the crisis, and a new fate has been spun, moving the story towards its “end point.”

The game is set on the continent of Zemuria after the Great Twilight. The three main characters and their actions all over the continent cause troubled destinies to become intricately intertwined.

One is a “hero.”
One is a “liberator.”
One is a “hermit.”

The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki features plenty of new systems that utilize the strengths of the Trails series, including a “Cross Story” system that allows players to switch between three routes at will to depict stories happening in parallel from different perspectives; over 50 playable characters, including some new faces; and expansive “Episode” scenarios that delve into the backgrounds of each character.

How do the people of Crossbell feel as they prepare to be independent once more? What thoughts pass through the minds of the people of the Empire who lost their mighty pillar? And what is the agenda of the society Ouroboros, whose Grandmaster decreed that the “Orpheus Final Plan” be advanced to a new stage…?

this is a dumb question but

i have TCS1 on the psvita
TCS2 on steam
and im not sure where i will get TCS3 but Switch seems most viable

Is there a reason to play these games on one platform or does it not matter? I am just wondering if I am missing out on any inter-connectivity in the titles

See here. It's not a huge deal, but if you're serious about the series and want to get the most out of the games I'd recommend trying to grab CS1 on Steam if it goes on sale. There are also game saves floating around online that you can download and just drop into a folder on your PC. Check the Falcom subreddit or the Falcom General on /vg/.

Nothing carries over from CS2 to CS3, so no need to worry about that.
