If you haven't read the books this is almost exactly the same as described but it hit's you in the feel's so much harder when you know what's coming next.

I wholeheartedly agree. I only recently discovered The Expanse since it popped up on Amazon Prime and am already concerned it will get cancelled due to what appears to be piss-poor marketing.

Apparently it's got good and growing numbers and the funding isn't from the Sci-Fi channel so even if they do pull it and it goes Amazon / Netflicks only it will still be produced, and the last episode really caused a spike in the number of viewers, with the final scene in particular getting watched on youtube in record numbers.
