After that reversion of Paris to a pre-disaster state, I got a strong feeling that this time Anno is aiming for a "happy" ending. Guess the world will become apt for life again in some kind of mindfucking ritual, a sort of subversion of what we saw in The End of Evangelion.

I always thought Evangelion was the most pretentious and convoluted of the animes, which is saying something. It's like Kingdom Hearts, which in theory has a simple story but just piles on bullshit until it's completely incomprehensible. The fact that the new one is called Evangelion 3.0+1.0 just cements that connection for me.

Reimagining of the show. The first one 1.0 is almost carbon copy of the show, while 2.0 starts to get a little screwy with the plot until it goes off the rails. 3.0 goes even further off the rails and as you can see we’ll have 3.0 + 1.0, in which the plot will somehow resolve.
