If anything, they are compared to panda bears. But anyways, it's like you say: Every minority character has to be 100% perfect. Strong but not brutal, smart enough to regurgitate woke shit, beautiful but non normative, no tragic past, not falling from grace, absolutely no weakness. And if you don't follow this list, you are victimizing them and saying that all of them are flawed in some way or another, and therefore inferior.

All of the outrage I've seen on this is so misdirected. It's all about how this is somehow racist when in the HP universe, it really isn't. Race wasn't an issue in the wizarding community. It was about blood purity, being non-human (goblins, werewolves, giants, house elves, and sometimes even veelas were shit upon), magical ability (muggles, squibs and weak performers like Neville), and wealth. A lot of it was an allegory for racism in our current world, sure. But the books set up a much more elaborate hierarchy of privilege than just race or gender. That's what made the books so interesting. Any character could have been good or bad. Race, gender, blood purity, sexuality or being non-human had nothing to do with it.

I've also seen people offended that Voldemort (a cis white male!!! they always point this out) would 'own' an Asian woman as a pet and force part of his soul into her. Like, of course he would, he was the bad guy! But even then, he absolutely prized Nagini. She was always with him, he trusted her more than any of his followers, and used her m.ilk as a healing agent. That doesn't sound like someone oppressing women for being women.

Honestly, a lot of these people who are mad are pulling some crazy reaches that just make themselves look racist af. I've seen people say that 'of course this Asian woman is a snake, it's a play on slit-y Asian eyes', that the other East Asian character Cho Chang sounds close to the slur 'Ching Chong', and the fact that she was 'beheaded by a white man' (I still have no idea what the significance of this is).

The only thing I have a problem with this is how it was tacked into the movie that no one asked for with absolutely no basis in the actual books. Rowling is out here saying Nagini was written as this character in the books the whole time while nothing in the source material even hints towards this when there were multiple chances to do so. Like, sure, you can shoehorn this in and it fits, like Dumbledore being gay, but I don't buy it. Show us them Nagini character notes from when these books were written, Rowling.

If Nagini being revealed to have once been human was in any way meaningful in a sincere way, they would have kept it a secret discovered within the film itself, instead its clearly a gimmick they made up to draw in the interest of lapsed Potter fans, because the underlying core of the Fantastic Beasts movie series is hollow.

The first Fantastic Beasts movie was already stupid as fuck.

I enjoyed watching it, but seriously, how much stupid shit can you put in one movie?

The main "plot twist" of the movie was that the main character who we thought was a Grindelwald supporter was actually Grindelwald himself, even though there was no seriously hints that the guy was in disguise.

Its like they couldn't afford Johnny Depp's asking price but for the last 5 minutes of the movie and wrote the script around the limitation so the first one could make enough money they could pay to have him the second one.

Its really fucking frustrating, its should be a good thing that people are considering more types of people for major roles in films like these, but in response people both on the far left and far right complain that "Boo you only cast (non white race here) to score diversity points!", there's no pleasing anyone.

Leftists only want non-white non-straight depiction if the characters are artificailly flawless and unobjectionable, while far right wingers demand a special excuse or reason for anyone who's non-white or non-straight to be featured in a film for ANY reason.

I'll watch the movie in its second week, It'll be stupid but I'll enjoy it for what it is.
